This is a little random and we don't call it football... but, found this on FB.
(disclaimer: that's the name of our national rugby team and it's all to do with our national sporting colour, nothing to do with race etc al.)

....OMG Flake!....that is fantastic....I think they need to come to the States and "tackle" gang violence-sort of an update of Sliwa's "Guardian Angels" program....

Well, this is surprising! It looks like the Cleveland Browns might be giving Josh Gordon another chance. When he crashed out of the league just before he was due to reappear last year, they issued a statement which almost came with an audible sigh, all but saying he would never play as a Brown again. The latest news seems to be that his recovery is going well, and that he might be in a place now where he could handle the pressure and the responsibility of being an NFL receiver. Michael Johnson, Gordon's manager, said: "He's also in the best shape of his life and feels even better than he did when he had his breakout year in 2013. This will be a special year for Josh and we are all very proud of the way he has taken the necessary steps to turn his life around."

Josh Gordon Isn't a WR the Browns Can 'Turn Down,' Says Sashi Brown | Bleacher Report

According to Tony Grossi, the Browns' ESPN analyst: “Assuming he would play at the level we started to see glimpses of last preseason and certainly in the league before, [Gordon] would be a talent I think no team in the NFL would turn down if he got back in. Our decision with Josh is just understanding where he is in this process and being able to have him. We’re not in position at wide receiver to turn down a guy like Josh if we feel he’s settled himself. Josh is going to have an opportunity to reapply to the NFL and at that time we’ll make a decision when we know what’s going on.”

Josh himself seems to be in pretty good shape!

I would like nothing more than for this young man to turn his life around, get help with his mental demons, kick the drugs and become the brilliant Hall of Famer that we all know he can be. Good luck, young feller! You have my very best wishes and support. Prove them all wrong, and let's see you back on the field this year. :)

Are there any Browns fans (or anyone else) who would care to comment?

He does indeed. I am wary of getting my hopes up too much about his comeback, because it looks so unlikely... But ultimately, it would be wonderful if this very talented young man overcame his mental demons, not just for the sake of his career but for his life outside football.

Do you still follow the Browns, Scott? I ask because I am a Dolphins fan, and I have tried to follow other teams a few times when the Dolphins have seemed not just bad but stupidly bad - but, in the end, whenever I turn to the week's football scores, it is the 'Phins I look for first, and feel a lot more genuine joy over their victories and pain over their losses than any other team. Despite my best efforts, my childhood support of the Dolphins has made me care about them whether I want to or not. :) Do you ever feel the same way about the Browns, or was the transition just a nice, simple decision for you? Would you still celebrate if the Browns reached the playoffs?

I don't know what kind of substances Josh was banned for but the NFL is seriously considering dropping their war on marijuana. The owners want to drop marijuana from the list of banned substances. The article I read stated that the owners have wanted to do this for a long time but they are saving the issue for collective bargaining so they can make the NFLPA give up something in return.

....I still keep an eye on their headlines, and will be happy for them if they finally turn it around.....but my decision had been a long time on simmer and finally boiled over....couldn't handle the sheer stupidity anymore....

Well, here we are, everybody! The 2017 schedules have been announced! And so we can begin the long process of predictions, grumblings, complaints of unfair treatment and generally displaying just how wrong we can be at every opportunity. :) You can see the schedule here - NFL 2017 Regular Season Week 1 Schedule - NFL.com

And so I say - let the football begin! I'll be saying it again at the draft, and when the preseason starts, and when the regular season starts, and at least twice a week from then on - but why deny myself the pleasure of saying it now as well? I look forward very much to a lot of football chat with all of you a few months from now!

My own team, the Dolphins, have a schedule that would give any team headaches, and I doubt if the Phins will hold up very well against them. Their form improved a fair bit last year, particularly in the later weeks, but I would be very surprised if the sparks of brilliance we saw emerging last year will be enough to get them through the tough, uphill climb that is facing them. From week 8 to week 16, their schedule reads - Ravens, Raiders, Panthers, (bye), Patriots, Broncos, Patriots, Bills, Chiefs. Of all of those matches, the only home ones are the Raiders, the Broncos and one of the Patriots. Earlier in the season they have three consecutive road games, if we include the London game as away (which we surely must, and which the NFL is not doing).

But, you know, even when things are going badly for my team, I love football! I'll be watching all of those matches and enjoying every moment of them, win, lose or draw. Please don't take my moaning too seriously - I love moaning about football, and I'm secretly loving every bit of it. :)

Would anyone care to chip in and tell us what you think of your team's schedule?

^ I'm really looking forward to watching the Jets this season, DiO'Bolic. You're going to have a tough few years ahead of you, but I'm sure you have resigned yourself to that already. :) What you do have is a situation at quarterback that is going to be fascinating to watch unfold. I'm impressed with what little we've heard of Hackenberg so far, and they will probably draft another QB, so Hack and Petty will be duking it out on the pitch, fighting for preference over McCown, with some other unproven gunslinger racing up behind them. There is a LOT of youth and potential battling it out before your eyes, and the next year or two will be full of speculation and hope and excitement for Jets fans.

While all of this is going on, you have culled some of the older tried-and-tested guys from the team (I was shocked to see Decker go - he has been one of my most dependable fantasy players for the last couple of years), and are waiting to see who you get to replace them. It is almost like building a team from scratch - extremely exciting for any football fan to watch!

And I've heard that the Patriots are looking awful this year.*

* (Not really. Just wanted to make your eyes boggle out of your head for a few seconds. :))

Here is the Browns schedule

Cleveland Browns 2017 Regular Season Schedule - ClevelandBrowns.com

Which game will the Browns win this year? I'm going with at Bears in week 16.

Are you a Browns fan, FLJoe0? Cross your fingers and you might get Josh Gordon back this year, mentally and physically healthy and with all of his demons vanquished. That would be worth celebrating. :)

You've got a fairly tough season ahead of you, and I wish you luck with it! You might beat the Jets, the Jaguars and the Bears, but you've got some formidable opponents most of the other weeks.

I try to remain an optimist when it comes to my Browns. So here it goes....I really think they have several opponents they could potentially beat this year...Ravens(1 out of 2), Jets, Texans, Titans, Lions, Jags, Chargers, and Bears.....and what the heck, at least one from the Steelers too. But that puts them at 9 wins and possibly the playoffs.....and I just cannot set myself up for that much success this year. Realistically they may only get 4 or 5....but who knows.

I am excited for the draft tonight though. Am hoping for no busts this year whoever they get.
