wow ! that was better than the movie :biggrin2: ...thanks

Not hard to do since it was the worst book adaptation ever. A shame. I bought the book before the big reveal about who really wrote it and thought it was great. I was looking for more by Bachman. When I heard the movie was coming out I ran to see it. Why would anyone buy the rights to a work like that just to piss all over it?

The adaption inconsistencies were never a problem for me because the movie came out when I was a youngster and I had seen it and enjoyed it at least 5 times before I even knew it came from a story.....or ever read a Stephen King book for that matter. So I had no problem liking it....but I always loved Arnie's big dumb action flicks of that era anyways.

By the time I read the story 10 years later the two didn't even need to be connected in my mind. Like Paul said, I always viewed them as separate entities completely.

I don't have the empirical knowledge to dispute this, but I must note here that I've read Starship Troopers and seen the abomination that was the movie. As I watched it, I thought I could actually hear Heinlein spinning in his grave.

Here is a quote from Stephen King about The Running Man adaptation:

'The Running Man' (1987)
Based on: "The Running Man" (1982; published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman)
Director: Paul Michael Glaser

"[My version of protagonist Ben Richards] is about as far from the Arnold Schwarzenegger character in the movie as you can get." - From an introduction included in the 1999 re-printing of his 1985 novel "The Long Walk"

What does Stephen King think of all those Stephen King movies?
