I love the smell of old books; books with odors like unearthed potatoes or rainsoaked pavement. Others absorb the essence of places where they've been stored, like a dank basement that smells of dirt, motor oil and weedkiller or a sun-starved cedar chest that's spiked with moth balls. Sometimes a book can retain a distinct but elusive smell that reminds you of a person's house. I recall faded orange Zane Grey hardbacks that smelled like old leather bowling shoes and worn paperbacks from the '60s that hold an aroma of a smoky hotel lounge. Each smell a separate memory and not unpleasant. Cigarettes, whiskey, suntan oil...I often pause and wonder how many readers held this book before I did.
Yeah, I'm a book sniffer.

Bit Bit of Disneyland trivia: The scent of vanilla is sent out of the vents in front of the Candy Store on Main Street to encourage Guest's entering the shop and making a purchase. Watching candy being made in the front window helps, also. I know it makes it hard for me to walk by...
