If you haven't played the third installment there was a fan translation that was completed a number of years ago that can be patched to a rom file if you can find it.
Yeah the third one definetly has the best gameplay and most well-written plot, but I still think Earthbound (Mother 2) is slightly better

I haven't been reading as much lately so I haven't had anything to talk about. I beat Earthbound the right way eventually so I feel absolved lol. The ending jerked a tear out of my eye with the sound sample "I miss you."

On a side note, wouldn't the coffee given by Mr. Saturn be amazing in the real world? Something that shows you all the wonderful things you've done and tells you good things about your journey. Something akin to the entheogenic experience, maybe.

I've been met with ridicule for liking Earthbound but I've also been able to show it to people who fell in love with it too. Think of all the cool things people miss out on because someone else said those things weren't cool.

About 1408 though, before I knew of Stephen King's influence on Silent Hill I thought 1408 could have been an awesome SH story based on the movie. I hadn't read the book yet but I was obsessed with SH at the time and was seeing it in every story I enjoyed. I think something based on 1408 would make a great game. Team Silent had a really fantastic grasp on atmosphere and unease. Developers really need to follow their lead.

I'd love a Mr. Saturn as a pet, I'm sure they're great with cats
