"One morning he awoke in a green hotel
With a strange creature groaning beside him
Sweat oozed from its shiny skin
Is everybody in?
The ceremony is about to begin"

"Wake up!
You can't remember where it was
Had this dream stopped?"

I have always wondered if Jim Morrison had once stayed at The Overlook while on tour..
Drunk one night he wandered into a (random?) room to drain the lizard. He must have saw something in there... THE END

Not a regular reader, but I just finished both The Shining and Doctor Sleep. I loved them and I have questions about Doctor Sleep. I looked thru the forum but could not find any answers. Im not aware of the proper forum behavior relating to asking questions that contain spoilers. So I will shut up now. Id appreciate any reply. Thank you and Shine on

Welcome Michael! There are lots of threads to choose from. Context clues in each will let you know if you need to use spoilers. In the toolbar above your messages, there is a happy face, a mtn scene a film reel and a letter icon. Press on the letter icon and it will bring up a spoiler tab. When you see how a particular thread is working and it needs a spoiler, use that and it's pretty self explanatory.

Thank you for replying! Please forgive my ramblings, I like to create rabbit holes to jump down. So I may be very confused.

That Which Was Forgotten:

At the end of Doctor Sleep, Dan is at AA and will be getting his 15 yrs chip. He is called up and attempts to speak of the night with Deenie, a night that has haunted Dan for many years. He does not completely tell the whole story, as his knowledge of Deenie and her son being deceased was reveled to him thru a dream/SHINING. And this happened in Wilmington. Now at the end of the story Dan is telling Abra about his "demons" and speaks of prison time in St Petersburg for beating a man with a pool stick that laughed at him for scratching. But that was before he met Deenie. Was it just a coincidence that Dan also started off his night with Deenie the same way, a bar fight over scratching on a game of pool??

Its understood that Abra can read Dan's mind, but she doesn't "peek". Im wondering if he was hoping she was peeking and saw the TRUTH, a final attempt to confess what happened the night at Deenies.

OK here it is, its aweful. My thoughts after reading were this: Recalling the dream where Deenie warned Dan about Rose, the boy Tommy was calling Dan daddy. Could Dan have been the boy's father and could he have killed them both that night? I mean Mr King put an emphasis on that night, it really haunted Dan thru the whole book. I hate that I have this idea/thought of Danny, but I cant ignore it.

Thank you for your reply!

I can understand abandonment, because they died. But the guilt over taking the money? He also screwed his landlady on the rent that day, drank and snorted the rent money, but that didn't torment him. Denial(and trust) is a major theme in AA, and that last talk with Abra, echoed that to me. I don't think Dan believed Abra was telling the whole story, that she DID know about the booze at the party and it was probably more that just a "sip" . Classic denial IMO. Dan never wanted to think(admit) about what happened on that awful night in Wilmington, even after 15 yrs without the drink. King made a point several times that Dan still had not completed the 12 steps despite his sobriety. Denial again.

When Dan saw Abra's denial he tried to let it out, the Deenie story. He needed to warn her as the "teacher" and thru that, confessed his worst sin, allowing him to heal himself of the guilt over Dennie and Tommy. Abra's reaction was to "STOP IT YOUR RUINING MY BDAY!" Maybe she saw in his mind what happened that night, and maybe not.

Paging Doctor Secrets!

Thank you to everyone! Great party you all have here. I do overthink, yes its true . I took it upon myself to connect the dots to both books, like solving a puzzle. However it seems my imagination has created the puzzle that cant be solved!! The TV show LOST sent my mind into overdrive when it ended. The "There just has to be something Im missing here" feeling. Always ready to jump down the rabbit hole you could say.

Thanks again and have good weekend

Hi what is a Tet member? From a book, Dark Tower??

KA-TET

Ka-tet means "one made from many." Ka refers to destiny; tet refers to a group of people with the same interests or goals. Ka-tet is the place where men’s lives are joined by fate. Ka-tet cannot be changed or bent to any individual’s will, but it can be seen, known, and understood. The philosophers of GILEADstated that the bonds of ka-tet could be broken only by death or treachery. However, Roland’s teacher Cort maintained that neither death nor treachery were strong enough to break the bonds of ka-tet, since these events are also tied to KA, or fate. Each member of a ka-tet is a piece of a puzzle. Each individual piece is a mystery, but when put together, the collective pieces form a greater picture. It takes many interwoven ka-tets to weave a historical tapestry. Ka-tets overlap, often sharing members. A ka-tet is not always bound by love, affection, or friendship. Enemies are also ka-tet. Although usually referred to as positive or at least inevitable, the forces of KAand ka-tet can sometimes cast a sinister shadow over our lives.
