Guys, most of you have already read Mr. Mercedes, obviously. And me, right now I am finishing Rose Madder and Mr. Mercedes is my next book to read, but I am confused if I should purchase the book in the store or listen to the audio version. Usually I prefer reading but this time I have doubts, because I found the book only in one store in my city and it's rather expensive, with that sum of money I can buy 3 or 4 books. And I've heard that there are different opinions about Mr. Mercedes, some say it's worth reading, some say it's okay to listen to it. What should I do? Please advise.

Although I do own quite a number of SK audio books, I have everything in paper as well.
I still prefer reading instead of listening, because I find it a lot easier to re-read a passage if I didn't get the meaning first time round, than it is to re-wind to find it and re-listen.
Also if I "doze" I stop reading, but an Audio goes on without me!:hopelessness:

Unless you are desperate to read Mr Mercedes, why not wait and pick up a mint used copy from the Internet?
I assume you are wanting an English version?
If so here's a link to Abebooks, which I think you'll find a lot of SK members use....

stephen king - mr mercedes - AbeBooks

They have a good used copy for £9-50+ £4.99 postage and packing to Russia, with a 4-5 day delivery.
I think that converts to around 870 Rubles.
Hope that is some help.;)

I have many of SK audiobooks due to the fact I used to drive long distance to work. I also have the paper editions- as stated above, I like to go back and find certain passages. Mr Mercedes is a detective/mystery story and many found it "different" than the typical SK book. I enjoyed it.Keep looking and maybe you will find a better price.

I'll give you a slightly differing opinion. If you are really dying to know what happens in Mr. Mercedes, and don't want to wait for the book to become more affordable, then go ahead with the audio. I really enjoy listening to a good audio book, and I know that SK audio books are very well done. I just checked and he is not the narrator of Mr. Mercedes but it will be a good listen anyway. You can still keep on the lookout for a used hard copy, but you will be able to participate in SKMB discussions without worrying about spoilers!

I have a terrible memory for character's names. With a book, I can make notes in the margins. With an audio book, I'd be forever thinking "Who was that? Is this a new character? or were they mentioned a few chapters back?" The only audio book I've listened to was Clan of the Cave Bear. I enjoyed listening to it but there weren't very many characters to keep track of lol

Have you considered buying it online? You can get it for less than $15 (with shipping) on Amazon. The MSRP is a bit outrageous.
I have never bought anything from Amazon and other websites. The post offices here work terribly, it can take a good few months to receive the package:umm:

Well... I guess so far I will wait, maybe later they will sell it in some other format, not in a hard cover, this way it will be cheaper. Or I will receive the next salary and still go to the store:0:

...I don't know if you have access to Ebay, but I see copies on there going for as little as four dollars American....
Yeah, we do have access to Ebay, but it's hard with the payment from Russia there, I know my friend here wanted to order something from Ebay and he had to make some kind of special credit card that for this purpose... Well, I think I will really have to wait so far, probably another store where I always buy my books will finally bring the book and I will purchase it there...
