Yes, Thanks for the reply. What I do know is that the Gormenghast novels are some of the most important (and little known?) examples of the genre...sort of like H.P. Lovecraft thirty years later.

I greatly appreciate the reply.

P.S. I haven't read any Stephen King novels for awhile and am now immersed in the Dark Tower novels, while "It" awaits. I had forgotten that Mr. King's writing isn't only excellent from a technical point of view but he also weaves in historical events and social causes (such as racism) into the narrative which, for me at least, makes them all the more enjoyable.

Howdy Brianar! I read Titus Peake years ago and really liked it...although it's been a while. I think Sting from the Police had something to do about televising these stories but am not sure if it ever got off the ground. Even so, I still remember clearly the top of that seemingly endless castle and how the guy finally made his way inside.

Though I have heard of Gormenghast, I've never read the books, and i think there was a TV series based on it (not seen that either), but belated welcome anyway.

I'm currently reading "Song of Susannah" in the Dark Tower series where he briefly mentions "Gormenghast" as a classic comparable to "The Lord of the Rings" so he seems to be aware of the novels and to hold them in some esteem though it's difficult to say in reference to your question how familiar he may be with the material.

Having read the Gormenghast Trilogy several times it's safe to say that while Mervyn Peake's influence can be seen in Mr. King's work (and that of many authors in the genre) it would be difficult if not impossible to compare Gormenghast/Titus Groan to anything else that's followed and I can only suggest that you read those two novels and discover for yourself how amazingly unique they are.

Finally, BBC did make a television mini-series of Gormenghast in 2000 which covered the first two novels but, as usual, it simply couldn't capture the mood and detail of the novels which are excellent imho.
