I am not so young, Russian, working in France (in math and IT). More than Internet, reading is a second life to my generation. I like King but even more I am interested in his worldview. (Some other favorite writers - Gene Wolfe, Tolkien, not all but certain things by Iain Banks and at the other end by Nabokov...) There is a lot to discuss about King, but I have actually a very concrete question: what countries are mentioned in King's novels? At all? E.g., take "The Stand": what happened with Captain Trips abroad? In other countries? In China? In Australia? What countries appear even implicitly? In other novels, e.g., in the "Dark Tower" Mejis may have something to do with Mexico. Superflu there hits a parallel world... My real name is Sergei.

Welcome to the Board!

It's left up to the reader's imagination what happens in the rest of the world in The Stand but it's a good guess that it spread throughout the world by people having international travel and given how quickly the virus was communicated to others.

Welcome Sergei

England is the setting for the story Crouch End; I do think most of the locations for his stories are USA, as far as I can tell.

Duma Key is Florida

One of my favourites is 11/22/63 which is reminiscent of the area I just visited - he mentions the Worumba Mill which has since been torn down.

I think quite a few of the stories are taken from his experiences in Maine.

In the book 11/22/63 , once the school teacher travels in time (I won't put it in a spoiler as it should be mentioned that he goes back in time on the cover) he ends up teaching in Texas.

Of course - it spreads. I was curious what kind of "secondary stands" may happen there, and what form they may take. I remember some time-travel story where the travellers want to prevent Spanish (with Columbus) to conquer America and so teach natives at some Caribbean island some modern technology - like fighter planes, submarines etc to complete ruin of the ecology. There is no oil, so the natives have to grow sugarcane and make spirit for combustion... Then the natives learn that there is a lot of oil in the Old World - and so themselves go there to conquer...

Thanks for England! I am not afraid of spoilers. The 11/22/63 mentions Oswald and his stay in Russia, but it is semi-historical novel... Still, it updates the list.

Hello Sergei! Welcome to the board. I guess a person writes what they know and he was born an American. I always wanted a Lithuanian feel to his stories, but never got it.
Hello! Of course one writes what one knows - but we all know about the 'existence' of other countries and sometimes even visited them. Does SK fly planes? Did he ever visit Europe? For example, I was in Chicago and I like it. I know that Ray Bradbury was extremely afraid of planes - he even refused once to take personal invitation and fly on private jet of some of the NASA astronauts. Always used trains or cars.
