Hi y'all, I'm Tez, from the great Midwestern state of Wisconsin. I'm a relatively new Stephen King fan (age 22) but have quickly been devouring his works since I read Carrie last year. King has been the author that has helped me rediscover my own love of reading, which I had lost during my early college years. Since then I've read 8 more books by him and plan on reading many more. He's even inspired me to consider writing myself which is never something I've felt comfortable doing but with his guide, On Writing by my side perhaps is worth a shot. General question I'd like to ask the board, any idea if King has ever vacationed in Wisconsin? The state is full of weird oddities (Circus World, House on the Rock, Ed Gein/Jeffrey Dahmer), and is in many ways similar to his own home state with the large number of lakes and small towns. Door County has even been called the "New England of the Midwest" due to it having a long winding coast with many harbor towns.

It may be a bit much to ask for my first post but if a moderator or admin would mind sending me an address that I could write a longer letter, I would love to give him some recommendations on a trip that would showcase all the strange oddities the state has to offer. It may even provide some inspiration, (as my ulterior motive is to see if he may be inspired to write a story of some type involving my own state.).

Don't want to banter on too long! Just happy to have found a community to share thoughts with! Thanks to anyone that reads this post.

Welcome!! Interesting points about Wisconsin. I've never been to Wisconsin, but I did find Cleveland, Ohio weirdly unsettling. Have you read Black House? It's one of King's co-authored texts, and takes place in Wisconsin. I also think "Children of the Corn" is an excellent example of King capturing the unsettling nature of the midwest (Nebraska, in this case).

...Cleveland IS weirdly unsettling...rumors of a football team there are highly suspect...

Welcome Tez17. As a lad we used to go visit my dad's brother who was an architect living in Green Bay. The one weird thing I remember (I was about 6 or 7) was walking down an alley in December to a friend of my cousins house. It was brutally cold, the sun was shining, and we were about half way there when...aarrrgggghhh...I cannot even think about that without breaking into a lukewarm sweat. All the best, mal

I haven't read Black House yet, was a little put off by the "double author" idea as I just can't imagine that coming across right but may look into it as I know it ties into the Dark Tower series which I've almost finished. Children of the Corn I haven't read either but definitely iconic King, just a shame no one as made a good adaptation of it yet. Never the less, for anyone that wants to know more about Wisconsin as a strange state I'd recommend the book Weird Wisconsin. Has about everything documented you'd ever want to know about supernatural/odd things that have happened here.
