An eerie thing happened while I was reading the Sunlight Gardner section. A news story surfaced about a notorious reform school here in Florida where they found 27 graves. My dad told me that reform school was notorious for abuse when he was in high school. Bad kids were always threatened to be sent there. Anyway, I thought that this news story appearing around the time I was reading about Sunlight was pretty weird.

Sorry to keep posting in this thread while you are discussing the end but I have to do this while it's fresh in my mind. :)

Reading about The Territories has made me curious of something. The Territories are not part of The Dark Tower's other world but the Territories sure do look like the blueprint. So what I'm wondering is, were the Territories completely Steve or did Peter Straub contribute any to the creation of this other world? If Straub was a co-creator of the idea of The Territories, you could say he was at least a little influential in The Dark Tower.

Input-- The Gunslinger was published before The Talisman. The idea of an other universe was present- (Roland hypnosis es Jake and discovers he died in another world/universe) Would that not be an indication of territories?

Yes, the other world already existed in the Gunslinger. I was just wondering if Straub had any ideas about The Territories that worked their way into The Dark Tower later on. Did Straub's work on the Territories do anything to change Steve's ideas that he already had about how the other worlds were going to function?

That's an interesting idea to ponder. Was he influenced by a fellow writer's ideas? (not in a plagiarizing way but in a inspired way). I would like to know the answer to that now.

Exactly.

In hindsight, The Territories in The Talisman almost seems like a trial run for the other worlds in other novels (not only Dark Tower novels). I think the Talisman is the only novel with an other world that doesn't make some connection to The Dark Tower world.

I don't have my book beside me but I remember somewhere the Talisman was described as being the hub for all the worlds and that made me think of DT, too. I wondered why or how, this Talisman and the Tower could both be the hub. Just different "other worlds?"

....remember, The Rose represented the Tower in "our" world......so, different "glammers" but same concept.....
