I know amny of you told me to be prepared and that I would be blown away - but, what an amazing book! I finished over a month ago and I know certain parts of this book will stay with me for a very long time. I am so bummed I missed the discussion last night! I worked late and wasn't able to pop on until today to read through most of the discussion. Are we allowed to keep this conversation going for the next couple days?

You can add your thoughts and comments any time.

My favorite character is still Nick. But the most dramatic arc belongs to Larry, IMHO. He changes and grows the most. I also like Lloyd. His little twinges seem to be echoed among the RF camp but everyone is so cowed by the Walking Dude that they can't voice their concerns. I imagine that would be quite stressful.

At times, the religiosity of the tone becomes a bit much for me. That's my issue, though. I appreciate that some of the characters feel the same as I do and, actually, if things happened to me like they did to them, I might become a believer, too.

Overall, SK does a brilliant job of weaving stories and characters in what has to be one of his very best works. I like to read it every few years to remind myself what writing really should be.

Thanks again for the intelligent commentary and conversation. Goodnight.

HollyGolightly holly, add your thoughts if you have anything to share. We missed you.
Oh hey there! I'm so sorry I missed it. Monday was our oldest's birthday (she's 27!!!) and she couldn't come for a birthday dinner until Tuesday - so I was at the stove and sink while y'all were waxing eloquently about our beloved SK's 40 year bookbaby. I did do some catch up reading on the board today at work. Don't anyone be thinking I'm gone. Nevah.

Shoot! Second book discussion I've had to miss this month. Sorry! I'm trying to finish my dissertation by January while working through job/fellowship apps. Thought I could balance everything and still join in, but alas, I forgot there are only 24 hours in a day. Really looking forward to reading through the discussion, though! As always, thanks Doc Creed for organizing.
