Can someone please for the love of God tell Stephen King that if he's going to write about guns, or people talking about guns, that he at least writes in an informed manner. I'm tired of seeing words like "clip" instead of "magazine" and sentences like "a machine gun? You mean an automatic weapon, like the AR15." it makes me want to throw my book in the fire I don't have. The guy has been my favorite author since I was a child

....I say welcome, but even though he has been off target at times-he also "speaks" as many do....not saying it's accurate, just that it's common phrasing.....

I'm from Canada and don't know an awful lot about weapons (even though I was in the military for 21 years) :a11: I was an admin clerk!

Anyway - gun "talk" has never destroyed my enjoyment of one of his novels.

Welcome to SKMB ;)

By the way - does a Glock have a safety? :biggrin2:

Not being from a gun culture I guess Steve might have used terms some people might be more familiar with, be it slang or a more basic or simple description. Welcome by the way.:)
Exactly what Gentle and Notaro said.
Excuse the hell out of Mr.King for writing in a reasonable manner that ALL of his fans will be able to understand and relate to.

".....he rattled off the list of errors at machine gun speed.....never giving his opponent a chance to reply..."

"......he rattled off the list of errors at the speed of an automatic weapon, like an AR15.....never giving his oponent a chance to reply..."

Example sentences. What do you think? If you were writing a novel based on horror?

Welcome to the board.

What was your service weapon Neesy? :)
You talked about it before, with Diz on the playground. :)

It was an FNC1 rifle 7.62 mm - but that was just in Basic Training in 1980 in Cornwallis Nova Scotia

Later when I was on Honour Guard in Trenton Ontario they switched us over to the C7

I was pretty good at stripping my rifle in Cornwallis (I think I liked the smell of the gun oil) :dnce_pig:

But apart from having to qualify on the range annually I had no need of a weapon, first working in a warehouse as a Supply Tech then remustering and becoming an Admin Clerk

Oh yes - we also got to shoot a pistol plus the SMG (submachine gun) but again this was just in our initial 12 week course.

Sorry it took so long to answer - I was off making some lunch

When I worked for the Military Police in Edmonton the guys used a particular type of pistol but the women got the smaller Browning, then they made it so everyone had the same pistol.

The vast majority of fans of SK have no idea baout guns, he purposefully uses these terms to cater to them, than again ... maybe he just does not know anything about guns.

That's a pretty broad blanket to throw over SK fans. Is this something that you have read? Or opinion?
Opinion. In most places in the world guns are not legal, and in places they are the culture is usually in certain places, seems pretty obvious to me.

....ok kid, listen up......most of us know a thing or two about firearms....it's ingrained into our culture.....it's also an individual choice as to whether you care for them or not, or care to learn proper usage and utility......do not presume to paint us all with the same brush....

Well, Mr.King does know something about shot guns and sporting a beard that would make Rick Grimes a bit jealous. :)

.....I can see this thread possibly going the way of hot topics quite quickly.
Why doesn't EVERYONE cool their heels. :)
It doesn't have to be unpleasant or confrontational. :)
....provocative as ever Edder's. Cut it out! Lol. ;)
Could be worse Ms.M! Edward John could be The Firetalion! :D ;)

Obligatory meme about guns. And do not worry, this kid is listening up.
