Well I still considered myself new to king since I started reading him just a couple of years ago. I have however, been ripping thru novel after novel. I am just about done with defending jacob and was going to start dark tower III. But I had a change of heart. My dad passed on in 2001. He wasn't a big reader. A book or 2 a year. He was a vietnam vet. A very strong man. I always saw him as invincible. That why I will never forget the day that he said to me, " you want to scare the sh%€ out of yourself, read this at night time (saying this as he tapped the book IT.) Something that actually made my dad scared? I was in awe of the book. Maybe that's why maybe subconsciously I have been passing on it read after read after read. Well I just ordered it. Probably have it on Fri or sat. I can't wait. Finally gonna read the book that scared the u know what out of my dad. I'm scared just thinking bout it. Excited as well

well I didn't expect the book for a couple more days but it came today. so im gonna wait till night time and start it up. the only thing I know about this book is I saw parts of the movie. but I think that was probally around 15 plus years ago. very faint memories of it. wondering if any of you know what kings view of the movie was. I know he thumbs downed the shining. is the movie true to the book? I cant believe how pumped im in to start this book. im always excited to get into a new book I have been waiting to read but nothing like this in quite a long time. probally the connection I have to it with my dad. gotta get u eearly tomorrow so not sure how much gonna take down. also don't know if the books dives right in or starts slow so will see. I think im gonna try to find a first edition of this. just so hard to find a really good copy anymore unless you buy it yourself off the shelf.

Weeelll... it's a TV movie. So there are things that hang with the story in the books and places where it diverges with added scenes, etc. There are several plotlines from the book that are excised completely, but that's not a surprise. I found it pretty hokey, except for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise. He was TERRIFYING. I don't think I've ever heard what Mr. King thought of the movie.

Totally agree with this. If they all ran from the room individually for their close up one more time, I was gonna barf.

It is my favorite Stephen King novel. Further, if I were going to suggest a book that totally encapsulates all that King is about, I would recommend this one. It's got everything; strong, likeable characters, excellent writing, truly terrifying villain. It's lengthy, but unlike some of his other work, it never feels like any of it is unnecessary. The book flips back and forth between the present (1985) and the past (1950s) so it's like reading two stories in one, though I think the 50s section is more interesting.

I think you'll enjoy it and I'll echo the same sentiments as those before me; let us know what you think of it.

that would be sweet if some members were reading this at the same time. actually that's a good idea. a online book club. I wonder if that has been done on here before. pick a book and have readers who want to get on board sign up on a thread, then were all up to speed, reading the same thing if anyone has any questions, insights etc. so what the heck. im opening up IT in about an hour. I would like to get about 75 pages logged tonight

I've been scanning my bookshelves excessively over the past several days, trying to decide on which King book to re-read. I've been biding my time with "Nightmares and Dreamscapes," but am pretty much done with that one. This thread has prompted me, I think, to start in on IT again. My favorite King novel, and I haven't read it since 2007.
