I suppose I like End of Watch better simply because it seems more subject to interpretation.

"Suicide" only refers to one thing, and while there may be many different sorts of princes, mostly what a prince is is -- pun alert -- a son of the king.

Read whatever you like into that. That's the whole point, I think.

I tend to look at the word "watch" more in nautical terms because I was a sailor for many years, but a deck watch and a cop's shift could be seen very similar. The first thing that occurs to me when I read that title is that it's misleading . . . and that is a good thing.

See . . . the end of your watch is the beginning of someone else's. Watch itself (if you're doing it correctly) doesn't end. Not ever.

Add to that the fact that not everybody who is on "watch" is necessarily always "watching" and that there are other ways to have fun with the word (as many of you have pointed out so well in this thread), and what you've got is a title that could mean any number of different things . . .

Or nothing at all.

And that's the fun.

End Of Watch is fitting, but it seems so very generic. Without knowing more about the path that the book will take however, I don't know if The Suicide Prince was any better, though it had more of a ring to the memory.

I AM however really looking forward to the book though and seeing how it is all going to end.

The Suicide Prince sounds like a Regency Romance on steroids. End of Watch sounds bland enough not to insult anyone. It might not attract anyone, either. How about, Watch the Suicide Prince End? Just a thought.

Title Schmidle.....you know we would all read it even if it didn't have a title! Hey.....that would be an interesting experiment!
Great idea! Like the Beatles' White Album. No title. But we know who recorded it. Just put a white (or other color) on the book jacket.
And only Stephen King on it embossed. Too cool to be true. Stacy, you are a genius.
