I just finished re-reading Hearts in Atlantis a few days ago. I don't really see any need for any clarification on Carol's story. It's pretty obvious what she got into and how things turned out for her. To really dive into that aspect/period of her life would really be more of a study of counter-culture or "hippie peaceniks" and not really about her. I could agree that the ultimate culmination of that story might get fairly interesting towards the end but it's not necessary in HIA. That said, I'd read it and buy it if it were to ever come out. I'm not holding my breath though.

Wow. Honestly, I have no clue in what spirit you intended me to take these comments. It is, however, clear that you have implied a lot.
I've been well aware that just plain text conversations are lacking in facial expression, body language, and that element of just primal communication necessary for rational and intelligent communication for some time now. I suppose that I could have added, "In my humble opinion..." to preface, "It's pretty obvious what she got into and how things turned out for her. To really dive into that aspect/period of her life would really be more of a study of counter-culture or "hippie peaceniks" and not really about her." If that was the offending object or omission, I apologize.
So, In my humble opinion, within HIA we learn a lot about what happened to Carol in between the time period that she left school and when she re-appears. Granted, it's mostly from an outside perspective and not a direct narrative with her as the central character. For me I felt that that was enough. Again - "I could agree that the ultimate culmination of that story might get fairly interesting towards the end..."
To this I was referring to her involvement with MSP and the final confrontation at the house on benefit street.
Iam doing HIA on audio, so what's up with the 2nd half of Hearts in Atlantis? will it just be Stephen King talking? Is it going to tie into Bobby, story with Ted? Or are they some how connected and will pull all together in the end?
