I just now closed the book after finishing the story Hearts In Atlantis. I deliberately did not read the story until I had finished reading all of the essays. It was nice to be able to put a 'face' (so to speak) to the characters in HIA. I had often wondered how King came up with the idea of 'Rip-rip' falling down in the slushy sidewalk while the other guys were watching from the dorm and now I know. Even though this book is 95% non-fiction, it's still another great book in the King canon. Thanks for this, Steve.
....I echo that write up.....even with my off-kilter way of thinking, this book has added shading to the picture of my youth....I was but a child during this watershed time, however it has provided me an "adult" view and I thank all the contributors....

Just tried ordering this from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada at the UofMaine. It was $30.00 but US Mail shipping (the only option) was $25.00. Ouch...I clicked outta there. I'm sure it'll trickle down eventually or be on the web at some point. Dang!

Have you tried looking for it on Amazon.ca?

Hearts in Suspension - Stephen King: 9780891011279: Books - Amazon.ca

The USD $25 IS the actual cost to mail the book to Canada. There is no low-cost option. We have Media Mail in the US that helps book sellers ship books at an affordable price, but Canada Post refuses to participate in that system, so there is NO cheap alternative to ship there. I can ship to any EU country for less money, than any Canadian city. It's a shame for Canadian book lovers.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am sorry it took me so long to join but I am new to the country and am trying to find as many forums where fans reside. Note to self: Check the author's personal website first. Got it!
Yay Gerald! Nice to see you on here sir. Visit when you can because this is a GREAT site. While there are some good ones over there I think that you will find that the people here are much more accommodating and friendly than that other site ;)
Check out the General Discussions section when you can. We've been talking about you =D

Hello Lori,

Thank you for your kind words. You actually are my best walk-in customer and it is always a treat to see you walk in and say hello. On your last visit, I noticed you brought in your 'sponsor' to help you with your addiction, in case you 'slipped', and thankfully for your wallet, you didn't.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a healthy start to 2017. I hope to see you again in the New Year.

Whenever I get any freebies from publishers, I will be sure to give Lori as many as she likes.

Happy Holidays everyone.
Gerald

I had my first celebrity writer in the shop yesterday and as usual, I was not prepared for it. I did not have my copy of his book handy to ask him to sign it, but he promised me he would return in the new year and as sure as the sun rises each day, I will have it on hand to request a signature.

This fine gentleman walked in and was bundled up in winter clothes so tightly, you could have sworn he was a brick of $100 bills being muled over the border in a cavity-space on a station wagon. He saw the copy of "Hearts in Suspension" right at the door, next to Stephen King's Director Chair from The Langoliers and said he was happy to see that. I didn't recognize him under his scarf and hat, but I told him it was a great book and is a popular selling Christmas item. He then said "I am not sure if you recognize me, but I edited that book and contributed to it." I said "You're Jim Bishop" and he said yes.

He stayed for about a half hour looking around, and we talked about his time at U Maine, working with Stephen and the value of his books, for which he was not familiar with. When he left, he said he would stop back and I hope he does. After he left, I ran to my desk to get my camera so that I could take a selfie with him outside, but alas he was gone.

Next time: Camera ready, book in hand, cool story about my visit to Viet Nam.

Peace out!!!
