YAY! Insomnia is one of my favorites too! :) There don't seem to be many of us :(
It seems to be a pretty culty-book. Lots of people could not get into the story. I agree with them that it was a pretty long-winded one. but it was mostly the fantastic, almost lovecraftian atmosphere that kept me reading. Likewise; Ralph Robert has been one of my favorite characters by King until this day. =D

Ralph is my favorite hero too :) Ralph was a good guy hero. Most of SK's heroes/main characters aren't exactly good guys lol.

I noticed you also like Crouch End. I loved that story too. I thought SK wrote Lovecraft better than Lovecraft lol. I read Lovecraft many years ago and enjoyed his stories but a couple years ago I tried rereading one and couldn't get through all the long descriptive phrases :(

SK's Revival is a little bit Lovecraftian, a little bit SK's own Mythos, and a little bit something else I'm not sure how to describe lol :)

yes, and I really got sympathy for him.

I agree with you that Stephen King writes Lovecraft sometimes better than Lovecraft himself. But I still really like the vibe of the early nineteenth century style of writing.
If you want to experience the stories again but the reading doesn't go so well I can recommend narrations. Some of them are really well done and pretty easy to get from the internet. :)

Thank you for the tip. I will check it out as soon as I have finished The Stand.=D

That's a good idea, thanks :) My thoughts would be forced to keep up with the narrator rather than wandering off into areas unrelated to the story.

One of the reasons I love Stephen King is that when my thoughts wander off, it's SK's fault - my thoughts are related to what I've read rather than something different y'know? The Stand is a good example... have you gotten to the point where Underwood travels through the Lincoln Tunnel? I kept thinking about what I would do.

The youtube channel: "chilling tales for dark nights", has some great Lovecraft narrations, like this one: .

That is great, it means the story really sucks you into it, so you can feel the dread and dilemma all over (that last one especially).
I am just at the point were Nadine and Harold move in together in the freezone. It's funny; I really like the whole (apocalyptic and theological) idea of the story, but the characters are not really doing it for me in this one. While it sometimes is completely the other way around or (in my most favorites) they speak to me both to the fullest.
