Hello everyone,
My name is Sydney, and I am currently a college sophomore and creative writing major. The first time I read one of Stephen King's books was in 10th grade. It was Under the Dome, and it got me completely hooked. By the end of the school year, I had read The Shining, The Stand, The Tommyknockers, Doctor Sleep, and the entire Dark Tower series. I found King's works enthralling: the beautiful detail, the horror and suspense, the strange and supernatural elements; and the characters, many of whom were simply average Joes trying to find their way through an insane, absurd world. Really, his stories were often as relatable as they were horrifying. But what truly blew me away was the sheer imagination he showed. King had this talent of taking what at first might seem like a ridiculous concept, like trucks coming to life or people transforming into aliens, and turning it into something disturbingly believable. I was so enchanted by how he did this that I started trying to recreate it myself, and I have been interested in creative writing ever since.
I aspire to write professionally one day, both as a copywriter and as a novelist. I have written a number of poems and short stories, both in my spare time and as part of my classes. I have managed to get two of my poems into the our school’s creative writing journal, and I plan to submit more work next year. While I have not attempted anything so large as a novel yet, I do have ideas and am eager to put them to paper.
I want to say to Stephen King that I thank him for being an inspiration to me and to an untold number of other writers, past, present and future. I always look forward to reading his next work and marveling at the craftsmanship that only a master could achieve.
I wish all of you the best,
Sydney Moore
