Hello, everyone.

I got a simple question.

What was the type of shoes Henry wore?

I don't remember if it is mentioned in the book. I would go for either old tennis shoes, or some old boots (the common thing being they had to be "old"). But I would prefer to know if there is a specific type.

Thanks in advance.
...I don't recall, but you wouldn't go wrong with some old "greaser" boots...since he was a tough guy...just Google footwear styles of that time period...

The adult Henry, or the younger version? The younger version wore a pink motorcycle jacket with...an eagle, I think...on the back. He had a flat top so short you could see the white of his skin. Ben and Will both wore "sneakers"...no name brand mentioned with "sneakers" where I looked, so I imagine the young Henry wore sneakers. Maybe they were Red Ball Jets? Remember those, sneakers with that half-moon of rubber across the toes, a white patch logo on the inside ankle, or maybe it was both inside and outside.

Thank you! Yes, I meant young Henry.

Usually I do one of two things: Go to my notes, if I already took them, or go to Google books and use the search function and hope I can find what I am looking for.

Today I am rushing some pics I need to create comic book style ads for a local theater play so I could not leave that just to search this bit of info. And I wanted to finish Henry's pic (yup, that is why I needed to know this) in time to scan it with everything else. :D

You just saved me quite some time. Thanks!

Henry wore black engineer boots..

They are mentioned when he confronts Ben in the early part at the Barrens and they fall down the slope..

Already inked some tennis shoes. I may alternate tennis and boots in future pics, then. :D

Walter, I will start scanning the pics later tonight, but I will upload it once it is colored digitally.

In the meantime, you can see three pics of Henry I have finished. They are in the Self Promotion forums.

I'd have never imagined Henry would end up my most drawn character from "It".

Glad to be able to help. I figured you must be working on something, didn't realize you were under the gun. Do we get to see the result? :)

BTW, just to clarify... The theater play ads pics and the Henry pic are totally unrelated projects.

I just want to have as many drawings ready to be scanned because I have to carry the scanner from its storing place, and I'd rather scan everything in one go.

Thank you for the link. I imagined Henry bulkier than you have drawn him but you nailed the pink motorcycle jacket. That pic on page seven, the last one, the background is different than the other pics. Was Henry James plugged into that background, or how was that created? I liked the one of Joe, the bites on his legs, the tan line. Heh! Reading over the posts since I posted last night, went back to the scene with Bulldozer...which is a book, I think? I'd seen that as I was paging through It last night and completely missed the boots. Almost like another post from yesterday...about buying a "Dean Koontz" book that was actually a "Dan Koontz" book, somewhat like those...whatever they are...a paragraph or sentence, the vwls mssng? Bt you cn stll read it? Henry must have put on his Red Ball Jets since Mike...I think it was...ran away from him the one time. For what it's worth, the adult Henry wears shoes "for sure--shoes and ragged denim pantlegs. Faded blue strings hung down against sockless ankles. And in the darkness almost six feet above those ankles, he [Mike] could see glittering eyes."

Thought the "faded blue strings" meant shoelaces but I think his blue jeans are ragged at the bottom.

King has more than a few female characters with red hair and several of them are described with a braid. Can you do braids? Sounds like you haven't read everything as yet...but Black House and Talisman like King's other stories have an abundance of characters, but one old guy in Black House and the Thunder Five and more than a few characters in Talisman sparkle the imagination. Sunny Gardener. Lily Sawyer. Wolf.

What is the play? If you posted what it is, I missed it.

Yes,and you have Ben Hanscom kind of muscular there! He was supposed to be a fat kid..I think what Walter was thinking of as far as Henry wearing sneakers,I think he mixed it up because Ben was wearing Keds, remember? He splatted through the water wearing the keds and kicked Henry square in the balls..ooof..:barf:

I thought of trying to draw him with more developed muscles, but did not trust myself to do that and still come up with a 12 year old boy. Then I thought he is still young and could be lean and strong. I think that for kids to get more bulky, they have to focus in actual muscle growth, instead of just doing activities that burn fat and raise strength. Also, Henry has not gone through puberty yet (he is totally hairless, and has the smallest penis of the group, even though he grows the biggest when hard); I prefer to just have him as a strong kid who might have bulked out more as he grew up a little more (which ended up never happening, as he no longer did farm work later on).

As for his height, even if you did not mention it, he is tall for a 12 year old, but Bill is tall for an 11 year old, so they get even in the end. :D

The background for the Henry James pic is a photograph. There are people in DeviantArt who share "stock images", which can be used by others to create other pics. So I drew and colored Henry, then put the photograph of a Nebraska field behind him.

That pic of Joe and his family was so much fun to draw. Even with the deformed guitar. :crushed:

This next pic of Mr. Bowers will have sneakers, but I can have him wearing boots later on.

I think I can manage braids. I had Nadine with a version of one in the Joe pic. Of course, her completely black/completely white hair makes it hard to see how the braid really is.

I have "The Talisman" but I have not read it. I want to wait until I have both books. I hope I remember this post once I actually read them.

The play is "Sangre en los tacones", which would literally mean "blood in the high heels". It is a story set in a poor neighborhood in Mexico City. Even though there are murders and poverty, the play is presented as a comedy. It shows bad situations present in our country's society (and in many countries', I guess).

I think Ace Merrill wore these in Needful things as well.
Yes,and so did Buddy Repperton in Christine..makes one wonder if SK had a run in with a dude wearing engineer boots that makes him dislike the kind of guy that wears them..

Well sorry about that,I saw one where a shaved head dude was pretty much getting in the face of another kid, looked like what I figured was Henry and Ben at the guardrail near the barrens..must be wrong.
