I've been reading Stephen King for close to 20 years, starting in junior high. (Yikes, can't believe that was 20 years ago already...). What compelled me to join the forum is that I've been rereading a lot of his books over the past six months, culminating in rereading It for somewhere around the 5th time recently and then seeing the movie which frankly blew me away.

His books and stories have been a big part of my life that I keep coming back to periodically, but lately I've been thinking about taking a deeper dive into them and rereading everything in order. I was an English major but have gone in a different direction career wise that leaves me yearning for a reason to take a more serious look at fiction again, and I think Stephen King is where I want to focus that. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has done something like this before.

Looking forward to participating here and reading what other fans have to say!

Hi there,

I'm also just new on the forum and was thinking about the same.

I start reading King some 10 years ago only in Dutch. After a while some English versions and I decided to start chronologically in English.

I think I read most of the Dutch translated books and starting in English would made a wonderful experience I thought.

After reading Carrie and Salems Lot I decided to stop reading the same stories that I'm familiar with again.

The whole experience reading something you don't know yet is lost when you know the story already. Yes, reading in the language the story is originally written is great, really an eye opener. But the whole "what will happen next" experience is lost when you know the story already, was one of the reasons I stoped my project before ending it.

One example: (no spoilers) many years ago I read salems lot in Dutch, I think some over 8 years ago. Recently I started in English and first problem was that I decided to start reading other books also because I was bored wit the story I already knew.

In the book at the point where Ben and Susan are spying the Martens house was really disappointing to read again because I knew what would happen.
I remembered exactly what would happen, I remembered how frightening it was, even after all those years, and I decided to put the book away because I wasn't excited with the story itself.

Now I only read the stories that I didn't read already, chronologically , in English. And that's a great project for now!
