Thanks, Neesy! Your "spoiler" is, indeed, a lovely picture of my home.

I've found a fairly effective way to describe where I live that a lot of Americans can relate to: If you've ever taken an Alaskan cruise (or know someone who has), the northern-most point the ships can reach is a panhandle town called Skagway.

I live about a two-hour drive north of there.
My husband works in a place called Baker Lake, Nunavut - he told me it was going down to minus 69 Celsius (that is what they were predicting). I noticed on the news this morning there is an extreme cold warning in effect for Northern Manitoba and where he is, he is actually north of our province.

Can't say I've ever traveled to your part of the country, but I have lived for six months in Alert, back when it was still called the Northwest Territories!

Hope you enjoy posting on here - it's a great place!

My appearance here is probably long overdue, but I've made it all the same.

My name is Brett Chandler, and I hail from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, and Mr. King is among my favorite writers. Has been for a long time.

First discovered him back in 1980, on a Greyhound bus traveling at night from Calgary to Red Deer, Alberta. My dad was working out of town, and my mom sent me up to visit him for a week during summer vacation. In my bag, she'd packed Night Shift for dad, and I think it was the blurb from John D. McDonald that caught my eye (even at 16 I was a precocious Travis McGee fan). A dark Greyhound turns out to be a remarkably good place to read "The Mangler" :)

Needless to say, dad didn't get that book for a couple of days and it remains one of my all-time fave short story collections. I was hooked.

Mr. King's work has always been inspiring to me. At his best he makes it look easy, and lately I've been getting more serious about writing myself. In fact, I'm re-reading On Writing right now to get my own creative juices flowing...

Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the board! :D

While I haven't been to Baker Lake, I'm in IT with the phone company up here and talk to techs out there on a regular basis.

And we are MUCH more hospitable here than either Baker Lake or Alert (HOWEVER, Alert is only -22C this morning and in Whitehorse we're -33, so there's that...)

Welcome to the board! :D

Love your sig, Toni =D

So what is it with the wind chill?
:onthego:

(I only went to Alert because the military sent me there and I thought it would be an adventure)
