If you're working in order, wouldn't the first collection of short stories be Night Shift?
You are correct, I should have explained that as a youngster I read all SK works up to Needful Things and stopped cold. Couldn't get through that book. As an adult, I started with "NT" over again, completed the novels and now I'm working through the shorts I never read starting with Nightmares.

It's been a while since I visited this forum. But I've kept busy. And I've gradually worked my way through SK's "back catalog" being a new recruit/convert. I've made progress with SK books in between other books and reading projects. Another topic close by talks about "How do you know if you're a Constant Reader" and I have a silly concept in my head of earning the status of Constant Reader.

So far I have read Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining, DT: The Gunslinger, Eyes of the Dragon. From the Night Shift I've read Jerusalem's Lot, Graveyard Shift, Night Surf, I Am the Doorway, The Mangler, Children of the Corn, and One For the Road (I thought The Mangler was hilarious). From Skeleton Crew I read Grandma (I remember an adaptation to the 80's Twilight Zone that gave me nightmares for a week after) and The Jaunt ("Long Jaunt! Longer than you think!"), and probably the one about a tiger hiding in a school restroom that eats a mean teacher. And from Different Seasons I read The Body (and subsequently watched the really terrific film adaptation).

A modest beginning, I feel pretty happy with most of it so far. I only felt a little disappointment that Eyes of the Dragon was basically a jailbreak, but I enjoyed reading about the incarnation of Flagg that appears in that book.

So now, the last book I read was The Shining, which I didn't plan but the timing worked out well; right after I finished the novel and watched the Kubrick adaptation to see gauge how it compared to the book, all of the sudden the trailer for the upcoming adaptation for Doctor Sleep came out. I was excited about it, but now I'm pondering which book now. I have a sketchy reading plan, and DT: The Drawing of the Three is up, and I don't want too many books in between DT books, so I can keep that world fresh in my mind. On the other hand, I'm considering advancing Doctor Sleep in my reading schedule, so I have that under my belt before the movie is released. My original plan was to let a respectable amount of time pass between the reading of The Shining and Doctor Sleep. So here's a fork in my reading road, should I read Drawing of the Three or Doctor Sleep next?

I have not read

Nightmares in the Sky
Secret Windows...these I do not have.

Hearts in Suspension
I have it, but have not read it yet. I think I will have to read it a bit at a time, it seems like it will be heavy lifting. Not to say I am uninterested in it, it is just I need to be in the right mindset.

Think you will enjoy all the insights into that era of his life. Excellent read.
