Isn't that the truth? One of the most difficult things for me to re-learn was sentence spacing--my hand automatically double spaced between sentences, as I was taught in junior high typing (Typewriters were made of rocks and jungle twine back then ;D). Now it's all single spacing *sigh* And I will never give up the Oxford comma. IT'S NECESSARY SO MANY TIMES!
Thanks for the clue...I still double space at the end of a sentence.

I just read this great essay on a writing challenge to write 1000 words a day--I'm going to give it a shot--I'll have to get up at 4am to do it but NOTHING sets the tone for a great day than to start it by writing!

I tried that, but all I ever came up with was:

All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy
All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy...

over and over and over and over again. Go figure. :(

Seriously, we're not supposed to? I never knew that. But I don't write for pleasure, haven't in years.

I noticed at work that people still double space at the end of a sentence.

For years I did that and then switched to just one space. It is hardly noticeable, actually.

At one time we had to achieve so many lines per day i.e. 800 lines was the minimum standard but now they have changed it so we must achieve a minimum of 85 minutes of transcriptions.

So on the old system we wanted the fast talkers, as you could get more lines. Now we want the slow talkers so we can get more minutes with not as much typing.

They keep talking about bringing in a voice recognition system but if they take at least three more years to achieve that, I will hopefully be a retiree by then!
