We got over 5 inches of snow this morning and my wife rolled her car over trying to avoid hitting another car that had wedged sideways on the road. Thank goodness she did not get hurt at all despite the car turning upside-down and her windshield breaking. She was not going fast at all, it was just a windy slippery hill covered with snow. Her seatbelt kept her from hitting her head on the ceiling of the vehicle and she was able to open her door enough to squeeze out of the car. Help arrived immediately and she spent most of the morning sitting in a tow truck waiting for the police to file a report. She is now home safe and warm.
Glad your wife is okay. Rollovers are some scary stuff.

Over 13 inches of heavy snow here (4th on record in these parts for March). Probably left an hour later than I should have yesterday. But I had the roads to myself for much of it. The Jeep Commander handled the roads rather well despite Christine deciding to do a little possession on it. She decided to screw with the transmission, which didn’t allow me to do any manual downshifting, and the front left tire developed a slow leak. Country roads this morning were fun with all the snow drifting from the winds. I took me two and a half hours with the new powerful snowblower last night but it handled everything... One of the best investments I ever made.

Are we skipping Spring this year? :(

Tommie says thanks for all the kind words and well wishes, guys! We picked up a rental car until the insurance company sorts things out. She was nervous about driving again, understandably, but the roads are all clear today and she's a pretty tough lady and she did great.
That is good news. May she remain safe on the roads.

Well, its still cold here but the snow is mostly gone, only patches here and there where the sun has difficulties reaching it. We are in plus C degrees during the days when the melting takes place and the nights are still below zero because of the suns diligent work during daytime. This causes a lot of potholes in the roads, this melting-freezing-melting- freezing cycle thats going on. But i still count it as a spring sign even if no flowers has been seen yet the snow is slowly receding. (to read these pages makes me believe we live in an ice-age, one thing is certain: those early humans were a hell of a lot tougher then i am (and propably some of you too).

Is your city on the same latitude as Winnipeg? (Manitoba, Canada) It sounds like you are describing our weather here!

My son just saw a ladybug near our back door - where that came from I'm not sure, unless they are capable of hibernating

49°54′N; 97°08′W

Here is a cute story:

Winnipeg voted best place to live at latitude 49.8951° N, longitude 97.1384° W - The Beaverton

I think the Beaverton does humour articles, so take it with a grain of salt.

Stockholm is about the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska. Dont know which Canadian cities lies between 59 and 60 north. Looked Winnipeg up, you are far south of me, at about 50 north.

Ah yes - but it's a dry cold right? It's very windy here because of the prairies (very flat land).

I did not realize you were that far North! :onthego:

Its habitable with a climate much better than its position because of the Gulf Stream that carries warm tropic water up here and releases its warmth to the air. On the occasions in history when the Gulf Stream stopped functioning, for reasons scientists are not really sure of (very unsure in fact), the temperature has dropped quickly and made the plants emigrate southwards. If thats happen again (it probably will sooner or later) agriculture will be much more difficult and perhaps impossible so far north. Last time was about 21.000 years ago and lasted 5.000 years when the Gulf Stream started functioning again (for reasons unknown) and made the climate interesting for humans again. One of many unsolved mysteries when it comes to climate. Why did it stop? Why did it start again? We don't know.

In Katy, Texas (near Houston) right now it’s about 66° outside and the rain is coming down in sheets. One moment it was cloudy, next moment it’s like somebody took hold of the fabric between the heavens and the earth and unzipped the sky, causing it all to gape wide open and swoosh! Rain! I mean I feel bad complaining, even about the power flickering, going off for a few minutes, then coming back on, because of all you wonderful Tet-Mates who are still battling snow. But I was kinda wishing I had bought flotation devices last trip to the store. That’s how heavy the rain was. Dogs are going completely bonkers.
