Wow! o_O

Today we are having a mildish short of day - not too hot or humid. We just had a sprinkling of rain.

Perfect weather for squirrel trappin'

Re: Mr. Squirrel (Frank you already know part one of this story)

So - Andy placed his squirrel trap out again last night and this morning when I checked - there was that dumb squirrel - caught in the trap again!

This time I am leaving it in there.

I had asked Andy how he was planning to kill the squirrel  but he said that he is just going to release it far away from our house (in a park far away).

This was last night that we had the conversation, so when I saw the squirrel in there today I did not release him like I did yesterday.

Here he is in his squirrel jail:

I've been reading your 'squirrel bombs' in threads allover the place Neesy.
Looks like you and Andy are doing a fine job of humanely dealing with the situation.
I commend you both. :)
I read the article, and saw the video you posted on the KTP/WP.
That cooking vid was no joke, that is a mother and her son out hunting and using what they got,
lol, I wouldn't have made squirrel melts though. I got a good tortilla soup recipe that I'd put the meat in. :)
Yeah, even I would go Darryl Dixon on an oscar if I had the need to. (oh hush Oscar! I'm not going to let anyone eat you.)
Luckily I don't have to. :)
The article said the squirrels are coming up from the west coast.
Must be wild fires driving them. I think. The article didn't say.
Looks like you got a lack of predators to chase them off/ thin the herd.
I guess Baily must not go outside, since you have to trim her claws.
A cats presence in the yard alone, is often enough to discourage them from coming in.
Get a dog. Even a little yappy thing will run them off. I hear they only cost $20.00! :D ;)
At home we have a Jack Russell Terrier that lives down the street,
It is really great fun to watch the "Ricky and Oscar Show" that goes on, lol
Nice pic you took there. :)
Those big beautiful eyes aren't fooling me, they look like they're about shed some crocodile tears to get out of that cage, lol.

It's those little handlike paws clasped together that way, that gets to me.

Com'mon Oscar, let's go get Clyde and Klaus. We're gonna get drunk early today.
Spidey! We'll have the Turkish delight back in one piece and sober before dawn Hump Day!
WUT???? He said he's 21 in Camel years! ;)

Weather today in San Antonio will be around a high of 103 F,
normal for this time of summer.
Nice sunshiny day. :)
Hitting the road and heading back home to North Texas on Friday.

Wishing everyone to have good right weather today. :)

I wish that Kurben visited this thread, considering his education in animal anthropology.
I'd like to know what he thinks about the migration of the gray squirrels up the west coast and how they are pushing the red squirrels out of their territory.
I think that would be pretty interesting.
Can't help but recall lessons learned about adaption,
and think of how the Dire Wolves of North America were eventually replaced by the current day gray wolves. :)

....we see that in our locale....grays and reds have dwindled over the years with the boom in black squirrels.......

Nice day here today - started out overcast but now it's sunny.

I can hear a loud red squirrel up in a cedar tree but this guy must be too smart to get caught in a live trap. I even put peanut butter on bread in there.

wolfphoenix - Bailey has never been outside and seems content just to look out the screen door. (He's a male actually but neutered) Yes - I do like to keep his claws clipped. He is very good about this - I just brush him when I'm done so he associates nail cutting with brushing.

So far we have only caught the one grey squirrel and the rest were all red squirrels. They have been relocated to parks.

We did have a raccoon in there one day and I had to let him go of course. I used gloves but then after reading about how they can spread worms to humans I started getting worried. He was in there a while but I did not see any scat.

How's the weather in Texas?

That is interesting!
....hmmmm.....now I'm going to HAVE to learn how to tag someone!
Ohhhh KURBEN!?
Where you at??? ;)

Yoo Hoo - calling Kurben (he was over in Ka-Tet Cantina when I saw him last)

Weathers good!
Hot just like it's supposed to be here. I love it.
Give Sir Bailey my apologies for misspelling his name and mistaking him for something he wasn't. :)
I remember you telling us that you brush him, so he will associate the less pleasant nail trimming with something nice.

I actually don't have an education in animal anthropology. But i think that something that that phenomenon is gonna be more and more common with more and more species over time. Many animals are rather finely adjusted to a niche thats dependent on many factors where temperature is just one. Here in sweden we have noticed a rather drastic diminishing of the population of a rather common bird (it stays the year around) because of the warmer climate and climat change. We humans dont feel these things as most animals do because we are so flexible in nature. In europe is the grey squirrel seen as an invasive species and has in many places replaced the native red squirrel. If it will go that far in the US remains to be seen. The so called Black squirrel is not according to a study i read it about its own species but a result of breeding among grey squirrels. Here in sweden the Red Squirrel is the only squirrel but in England it has lost the bigger part of the country. Some other countries, including either Italy or Spain (i forget which) is also slowly losing the red squirrel because of the grey. I think its a pity, The Red is so darn cute. The difference between US and europe when it comes to squirrels is that in Europe the grey is an invasive species and a problem while in the US it is native. Hopefully the red can hold its ground. But, as said, i'm no expert but these are my views anyway.
