Actually I'm angry because I had a wonderful helper for twelve years, master carpenter, jack of all trades, and great human being, who died going on three years ago. (His wife also died, his sister thinks she even paid for a stone for herself, but her son has done nothing about having her ashes buried next to his and placing a stone. He also screwed my friend's kids, his step siblings, out of some inheritance. Peeved at him.) I don't expect to replace him but now I can't get the simplest thing done by anyone. Professionals won't answer and even talented amateurs are overwhelmed. One guy offered to help if I brought stuff to him but some jobs have to be done here. One of the best go-to guys was driven out of state by new laws but I'm talking jobs small enough that these laws wouldn't even apply.

I've been angry with myself for 25 years or longer for not being successful. If I was successful I could tell local guys to screw themselves and hire professionals from out of the area if I had to. I do as much as I can myself but it's become ridiculous.

Not really angry, but one of those no good deed goes unpunished kind of irritating things.

Monday night we were outside for a while. The weather is getting ready to change, and our evenings in the backyard will be ending soon.

A dog wandered into our yard. Was beautiful, looked like she had some coyote in her. She had a collar and tags on and was really friendly and well behaved. We called the number on her tags several times. No answer. Left messages. Finally Scott loaded her up in the pickup to take her home. No answer at the door. Which, ok, maybe they were out, at work, whatever. He got the dog back into her fenced yard and came home.

You would think the owner would have called yesterday with a thank you for bringing their dog home. They had both of our numbers, in the messages. But nothing.

It got under my skin a little. No one appreciates little acts of kindness like that anymore. :hammer:

I would have been all over you guys with thank yous! I don't get people any more.

This is NOT a joke. Treat people the way you want to be treated. It's not all about you. (royal you, not YOU cat)

I am just sick of rude, intolerant, selfish people.

Is this far away from you? I'm asking because the first thing I thought was, what if their owner is dead? Less dramatic is, maybe they moved and haven't changed tag info yet. Dog got out and went looking for it's old home? The fact that they weren't answering when you brought the dog home is worrisome.

Okay. Now I'll feel bad if they were sitting in the house dead.

It wasn't far at all, just a block up from us. I wondered too, but if they moved or something, they surely would have called, don't you think? Practically everyone works shift work here so it is not unusual for someone to be gone at night.

Wondered about abandonment, too. But she was well fed, and so friendly. And had her tags. She "shook" when you asked her to, and sat, so clearly someone has worked with her. I don't know but I hope we did the right thing. Calling animal control did not feel right, and we are only about 100 yrds or so from the interstate, so would have hated for her to wander out onto that and gotten hit.

Sorry! I didn't mean to add to your worry and I hope that you do hear from them soon. I know you guys are animal lovers and did the right thing!

That's what this board is all about -- bouncing ideas back and forth. What should we have for dinner, when's the best time to see IT at the theater, debating whether someone is sitting dead in their house-- you know, that old chestnut.
