I'm not exactly angry. Just extremely irritated.

Do you use coupons at the grocery store? I have. Not often but sometimes because my grocery store is full service clothes, TVs, furniture etc... I have saved huge money with coupons. Have you ever tried to use a coupon that was expired or you grabbed the wrong product or size of product specified on said coupon? I have done this. We've all probably done that a time or two and if you are a better reader than us, good for you and your superiority.

So, having said all that, don't misunderstand what I'm about to say.

Lady in front of me.
Big cart full of groceries, clothes.
5 Coupons.
None worked. 1 expired. The rest the wrong products.

So, we then have to sit there while the checker digs through dozens of bags to find the products because the person is fighting for that 10 cents.

Iwasthisclose to pinging change off of this old bat's forehead so she could get her deal.

I realize people are on fixed incomes. I realize that every dime counts for them. All I'm asking is, please be organized, and check your coupons before you unload a whole damn belt of groceries.

For the love of God, think of the children.

I try very hard to remember: If this is the worse thing that is ever going to happen to me -- to be stuck for a century behind you -- I'm pretty blessed.

Yeh that is stupid... I never do that, I have used expired coupons before, if they don’t catch it not my fault. But not often

I was FURIOUS Friday when I found out that Brutus the Wonder Cat was microchipped. I've owned him since he was 6 weeks old with his eyes crusted shut, trying to wrestle a piece of food out of our outside dish. I even posted pictures here, I think.
I never had him chipped.
When our house burned down in 2016, Tall Guy and I stayed with my daughter and her boyfriend in their spare room. We went back and forth to the home site every day to take care of the cats we fed. And one day in May 2017, there was teeny tiny little Brutus.
During the time we were at my daughter's, her boyfriend's mother came to visit from South Carolina each May, and during December/January for holidays.
Come to find out after some intensive investigation that she took Brutus to a third-party vet on January 3rd and had him chipped without my knowledge or consent, then registered herself as the owner (and naming him "Brewster." Bru - get it?) Tall guy and I moved home and (obviously) took Brutus with us. The other mother asked if she could keep him at the apartment and visit until she left, but I declined. There's always been something off about her, and I didn't trust her as far as I could spit her. And my instincts turned out to be right.
My daughter and her boyfriend broke up in August of this year, and that's when Wing-Nut started threatening to take my cat. In texts, all over my FB. Babbling incoherently that the law was on her side and there's nothing I can do to stop it.
I told her in completely impolite terms to forget it and go away. She has zero claim to my cat.
It was after my daughter told me that her boyfriend and Wing-Nut chipped HER cats before they left in August, and kept terrorizing her with threats of coming to get them, that I started to think. Took Brutus to the vet, and sure enough. He's chipped.
Honestly, FURIOUS doesn't come close to my level of outrage.
I asked the vet (MY vet) to print out Brutus's medical records so I could prove that I've been bringing him for routine care since he was itty-bitty. They did, happily, and offered to testify if it came to it, that Brutus is mine. Has been his whole life.
I went straight to the chief of police with everything I had and laid it all out. He had that look on his face, like "All this, over a CAT?" but he heard me out. It's a small town and I've known him since I moved down here. At first, he was like "Well, if the chip's in her name, there's not much I can do." But I whipped out the medical records and scrolled through pictures on Brutus the Wonder Cat's FB page of me and my cat since he was little.
He told me not to worry about it. If she tried to come down here with a cop and knocked on my door, she can't have my cat. I proved adequately that I own him.
Still purturbed, I asked him if Attempted Theft is a crime in Louisiana. I already know that it is. It's tough to prove, but if a person takes a deliberate act toward accomplishing the theft of property of another, it's punishable. Like, oh, say, fraudulently chipping somebody else's cat so that you can claim it later.
Yup. I wanted her charged with attempted theft. On the spot.
He did me one better. He sat back, rubbed his chin and asked me: "Whose permission did she have to remove the cat from the premises when she took it to the vet to get it chipped?"
I said "Nobody's!"
He said: "That sounds like theft to me."
So there's a warrant out for her arrest for theft if she comes back down here. And I'm not telling her. Let it be a surprise. She doesn't even have to knock on my door. Even though I still have Brutus.
Put it like this. If I steal your car, it's theft. Even if I give it right back, it's still theft. So, even though she brought Brutus back to the apartment after she got him chipped, it doesn't erase the fact that she took him in the first place. And there's no grey area about it. The chip is the proof. I've got verification from the third-party vet she took him to that she did it. No getting out of it.
So. Brutus is safe and Wing-nut will have to answer for her actions. Good. Done and done.
But what's really grinding my gears is that she chipped him in January, but kept trying to play all nicey-nicey, smiling in my face online, and when she came down to visit her kid in May, all "Let's be friends!" Acting like nothing ever happened. And so did her kid, who turned around and did exactly the same thing to my daughter's cats. That apple didn't fall far, did it?
They knew that whole time, and smiled in my face like nothing ever happened. At least until August when those true colors started leaking through.
They say that Karma's a bitch if you are, and I hope that's true. I really do.

I didn't sleep until very late on Friday, full of anger, worry, and a whole host of other not-so-pretty emotions. But it's all sorted now. I've handed the legalities over to the police, and I'm handing their fate over to the Uinverse.
Me, I'm just going to enjoy Brutus, the he's-mine-and-you-can't-have-him Cat.

I

I was asked what I wanted for Christmas. I said a case of the best salad dressing in the history of salad dressings… Wos-Wit Sweet and Sour Dressing. I haven’t been able to find it in a long time. Their website still lists it but it states ‘Sold Out.’ It’s been sold out forever. So a call was made and its been discontinued, and they just haven’t bothered to remove it.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try sometime. The Wos-Wit Sweet and Sour Dressing has a special taste I’ve not found anywhere else. Many, many eons ago I lived just up the ways a bit from when it was a small family owned business. Occasionally when I would run down to pick up some of their wares I would go in the back and give the owner a break from stirring whatever he was cooking up in a big cauldron over an open wood burning flame. You had to constantly stir the concoctions with a big wooden ladle so as not to let it settle while cooking.

It is a shame they went out of business.

They're still in business, but no longer owned by the family I knew. They seem to have just dropped the Sweet and Sour Dressing product. Their Bacon Dressing (always served hot over a salad) and Chow-Chow are world famous. I always have some Bacon Dressing in the pantry and give it out to friends and family who visit from out of state. Their apple butter, jellies, preserves, and beet & horseradish relish are the best I’ve ever had.

I would like to give you another recipe (thanks Spideyman )

This one is called "Mother-in-Law's Salad dressing":

(from a book called "Food That Really Schmecks")

Have you ever noticed how many men want the kind of salad dressing their mothers used to make? You might as well humour them - it's easy to make this.

7 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon mustard
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vinegar
1 egg, beaten
2 heaping tablespoons flour
1 tsp salt

Put everything but the egg into a double boiler, mix well and cook until the mixture is very thick. While hot gradually pour it over the beaten egg in a bowl, then beat again.

To make sure the egg is cooked, I pour the whole bit back into the double boiler and stir it for two minutes. It keeps well in the fridge and middle-aged men, especially, think it is wonderful.

:m_pan:

The author is from Waterloo County, Ontario where there is a combination of Pennsylvania Dutch-Mennonite and German cooking.

You know what? After typing this out, I feel like trying this out for myself!

(Also - after reading this recipe it sounds to me like more of a thick dressing - maybe this would be good on coleslaw)

I take it you've never tried my mother-in-laws cooking. Her father was a career army chef and the genes didn't pass on, except for SOS.. Egg in salad dressing? That sounds sacrilegious. :)

was suppose to have a CT scan at 8 this morning. They called me last night around 5 and said they still haven't the approval from the insurance.WTH?It has been over a week since the appt. was made. I guess I wait some more. Who knows how long.
That is so frustrating - wish there was something I could do to help you feel better (((((Lin)))))

Have some hot tea? That might help to make you feel better (not much comfort, I know, but it cannot hurt).
