It's too bad I saw his talk so many years later. I also have an idea for his setup. The ladies room is an excellent writing exercise.

My debut novel won the "Cross Genre" category in the American Fiction Awards. I'm already a skilled writer, but it would have been amazing to work with a master like Stephen King.

Tried to post and found the board was shut down on weekends and then for a few weeks in October. With all the blackout periods you'd think I was redeeming airline miles, instead of trying to post on a forum.

I just fulfilled my lifelong dream to retire so I can write full-time and chase my dream. As a bonus, I now have time to post during weekdays. So I can finally reply.

It's not a lack of humility to say I'm a skilled writer, but an honest assessment. I can just as easily rattle off my personality flaws as well. I'm honest to a fault and lack of a filter between brain and mouth.

I certainly haven't always been a skilled writer and grew as a writer quite a bit in the four years it took to write my first novel. While people mostly rave about my book, that was far from the case from the screenplay I wrote before it. Half of the other screenwriters didn't like it, and their criticism was severe enough that I gave up writing for a year and switched to novels. One of the key pieces of advice Stephen King gives in "On Writing" is to have your door closed for the first draft. Feedback is so critical, but criticism too early can really be damaging.

I'm tempted to share my author photo because it's creepy as well as funny, but I'll post it in the self-endorsement forum instead.

I can tell you have a great community from the friendliness and humor you greeted me with. I probably won't be too active, but nice to meet you all.

Came across this thread. Am wondering if this was a contest at some point? And it was stated King received an idea for the story...is this becoming a short movie or series, or will it exist in a more literary fashion? I believe I recall this story concept King has mentioned...I believe he has said it a few times, like that idea about the planet where it rains and people become cannibals...

It wasn't a contest. He just made mention of it and people picked up on it. He hasn't written the story yet as he's had other ideas that spoke louder.
