I just had an epiphany. (About Louis's rapid aging at the end of the novel)

I've been a Stephen King fan my whole life. I watched Maximum Overdrive when I was seven years old, and my mother actually took me to see the Pet Sematary movie when I was ten. I purchased the novel several years ago and after watching the new remake I dusted the book off and read it again. So the details are fresh in my mind. Anyway I just had a mind blowing epiphany. The novel explains that even though Jud is 83 years old he is pretty spry for his age. He seemed much younger than that to Louis.

So, in light of the fact that after Louis goes insane following the death of his wife and best friend at the hands of his undead son and his hair turns white and he seemed to be much older all of a sudden. It struck me. What if Jud was actually much younger than he appeared to be. Maybe people who survive the Wendigo's wrath and are traumatized by it age prematurely. Remember when Louis was on his way to the burial ground to bury Rachel there his friend Steve Masterson caught up with him and Louis was talking like Jud, telling Steve how to cross the deadfall without falling, and warning him that he might hear voices but they're just loons, it just made me think that maybe Jud was never who he appeared to be at all. Also I think once the Wendigo was hungry for power again it would summon Steve back to the Pet Sematary since it touched Steve's mind.

That's an interesting thought. Perhaps dealing with it as long as he did aged him.

Eh, the novel clearly states that Steve never returns to Ludlow. I think the place had enough to feed on with Louis. That is why I don't think the novel's version of Rachel does what the movie's does, the place clearly has control over him now and he will use it accordingly.

To piggy back on that, maybe the Wendigo sucks the life out of the person burying? Or, since you have to do the burying yourself, the life essence is taken each time the ground is used? That’s a very interesting take on this! Thank you!
