I really liked this book, good ole Travellin Jack. I know a lot of readers were disappointed in this one because The Talisman is such a great book but I enjoyed it. Yeah parts were quite..disturbing...to say the least, but I really came to like Beezer and his buddies. I can't believe I misspelled really in the thread title!!!! Can I fix that?

I liked it as well. At first, I wasn't sure, because it was a totally different animal from the Talisman, but I came to appreciate it as a work that stands alone on its own merits. Quite honestly, if it was more like the original I might have felt that it was just cashing in on it. As it was, it retained enough of the feel of Jack and the Territories, but a grown-up view of it with more mature issues to deal with. Probably not in my top 5, but still a great book and I enjoyed reading it multiple times.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Couldn't believe I did that, so embarrassing:wink2:
Hey, join the club.:miserable: I type like I text. Too fast, no punctuation and tons of misspelled words. Everyone understands and if they don't, well I figure they need to chill out!

Black house was set in a town in Wisconsin. My sister and I (rewoT91 here) spent a day there trying to find the house. Didn't find it but we did have a beer in the bar in Centralia which is really Centerville (or do I have that backwards?). The "Free Burgers Tomorrow" bar. :congratulatory: Loved the book.

From what I remember of the approach to the Black House, you might be happy you didn't find it.:roar:

I loved it, too. So many great characters! Now I want to read it again :)
When I saw Mr. King in Hamburg, I hoped to be able to ask him about the process of working with Peter Straub, but only 3 people got to ask their questions, and I wasn't one of them.

was a little disappointed throughout the first half of Black House as I enjoyed The Talisman so much, I think just because there was little time spent in the territories etc.. but once i got around halfway through I was sucked in :) Just finished it yesterday. Really enjoyed it. The ending had me in goosebumps even a blind man could see! ;)

Do you mean Hamburg in Germany or Hamburg in the U.S.A.?

Just know that you are now necessarily listed with the members who've made an embarrassing error, which includes 100% of us.

I started Black House years ago, read two chapters, then put it on the back-burner because I was in a different mood. When I recently finally read The Talisman I determined to read Black House soon after, if not subsequently. I really liked BH, despite it's utter disconnect in style from Talisman. I was very pleasantly pleased.

I agree. A lot like how Dr. Sleep was utterly different than The Shining and yet a great sequel. Sequels are hard. There's so much pressure to redo the original. King is wise enough to do something entirely different that is still linked to the previous story. I thoroughly enjoyed both Talisman and Black House and I read them back to back.

Henry was my favorite character in "Black House" and Beezer is a close second.

Does everyone remember "Burnsy", who was a nasty serial killer and cannibal when his alter ego from the Terrorities took over? He liked to call the police to taunt them. My favorite line in the novel is from the part where someone is trying to describe Burnsy's accent. I think it was something about him sounding like a Frenchman trying to speak English with a German accent.

Out here on the Canadian prairies, we have quite the ethnic mix. When I first read that line, I laughed and thought, "He sounds like he could be someone from Saskatchewan."

It all started when they came out with the slogan "Go West Young Man!"
