After the initial Pulse scene, it went a little slow for me and I picked it up several times and then stopped reading several times before committing to the book. However, once the group really starts moving, the pace is steady and each scene in the book serves to move the story forward. I liked the characters a lot. I thought they were crafted well to make them instantly accessible and meaningful to the readers.

I'm a huge fan of the ending. I'm better with open ended endings with SK than with some of his explanations in other books. I've had more than one experience in which I found the actual ending to be a letdown. For me, SK creates such scary, suspenseful atmosphere that once the climax hits and all is explained, I feel deflated. Cell did not let me down, however.

And I really liked that toward the end Denise calls to St. Anthony to help her find something lost. There's no doubt in my mind that this is a reference to Tony from The Shining and Doctor Sleep, who helped Danny find lost things.

The ending was a letdown and almost entirely predictable.

Credit is due where it is owed, however, as King manages to instill a sense of trademark carnage in the beginning that is awfully fun to read. It's the same kind of sensory overload that The Stand conveyed when Captain Tripps was in full swing (Which is to say awesome!).

It tends to be a bit...challenged with pacing however. The characters are content to do nothing and a lot of it feels like unnecessary filler. The part where the man who won the Ebay auction in real life to have a character in the book, the one who blew himself up, was so unbearably phoned in.

I don't really believe anyone could be considered crazy for disliking the novel. I'm not a huge fan of it, bit then I'm not a huge fan of his more recent titles.
I also agree, one minute I was loving the story and the next I was ready to stop reading it. There was a lot of wasted time but I do love SK's writing no matter what; didn't quite understand the ending or how the book could possibly end.

It's actually one of the few books of his I simply don't like. It starts off splendidly. Fast, lean, intense but I just remember the book losing steam a little before the half way mark. It seemed to meander and shuffle it's feet. It's the rare occasion where I felt King didn't know what he was looking to do exactly.
I agree totally - couldn't recommend the book nor sure about the ending - my opinion might be different if the ending was different - I almost did not finish reading the book even after being drawn in from the beginning.

I enjoyed it. I think we are all a little over saturated with zombies at the moment, but it was an original take on how everyone got "infected". I like that is was a nod to his friend George A. Romero. I am looking forward to the movie, I think that Cusack and Jackson worked well together in 1408, so maybe a bit of miscasting but with the good chemistry and already familiar and worked on a King story I will certainly give it a chance.

I absolutely loved the book Cell. There are people who say that it wasn't King's best work, or that it lacked some of that good old Stephen King Magic. There is no way that King lacks his personal magic in any of his books and I thought this book was great! I don't know if some of you don't like zombie stories or what the issue is but I thought this book was a great read. Also, the book was sad at times, however, it is not like the whole book was sad. I think that every one should do a re-read on this book, and that they should make sure to make it through. I do think that King writes to suit many different palates and tastes, and this is what makes him the writer that he is (awesome). I was just shocked to read that so many King fans disliked this book!
I enjoyed this one as well,im normally not a big zombie fan but i really liked this one

Boy, are we ever. Every other book on Book Bub is about zombies. I never really understood some elements of Cell. I won't say more since I don't know how to use spoiler tags.
When you write a message, a tool bar pops up. There is a rectangle that contains a happy face. Do you see that? Go to the far right icon in that box, it's a letter looking icon (I think that's what it is), right next to the negative movie clip icon.

Click on that. It will pull up a box and spoiler is in the box. So, write what you want, highlight it and click on that box and hit the spoiler tag, it should spoiler it for you.
