Oh Discordia, M.M.for Eddie works good (I think ) Idris for Susannah, too ugly, Roland cannot be found (even behind the unfounded door ).

Detta and Odetta did not see things as they were, she saw them as she perceived them to be. She can still call Roland all of those things. I don't think one thing needs to change. She should still treat Roland the exact same way. Detta and Odetta were delusional! Detta thought Eddie and Roland were torturing her when in reality Odetta had taken over. I think people are being too literal and not seeing this is so easily resolved. Because, as I keep saying over and over, her issues with Roland and his race was NEVER about Roland and always about her experiences, abuse and racism she was assaulted with her whole life. But who is Detta gonna call a honk mahfah? Jake? I will miss that particular bit of racism from the books that can't be replicated with this casting change. Like it or not there are huge racial differences being explored at the forefront of the early books that can not be replicated by this casting choice.
I love Idris Elba and the fact that this is a sequel to the books. I don't like the fact it is being billed as Stephen King's The Gunslinger because it is anything but.
Curious how a movie can 'ruin' a book. The book does not change unless the writer changes it. It's an entirely different medium and, in this case, a largely different story.
there is always Westworld ...
Totally agree. To do an 8 book series into 2 hours or 2.5 hour movie is not possible. But an 8 episode season, with 4 seasons, :now we r talking. It seems to me that the only real concern should be whether or not theatrical film is the correct medium for this project. I am excited about all the things I've seen so far. I would much rather see a heartfelt film inspired by the books and trying to capture the feeling of the source material than a literal page by page translation....As for my worldview...time will tell, there will be water if God wills it....
I would just have alot more faith in the probability of success if this were being told in some ongoing format, like cable television series...a la....Game of Thrones.....
