That's my understanding as well, although there's another report that the fate of the child was forever unknown.

The photographer received the Pulitzer Prize and killed himself three months later.

Two more. One of more a more recent event.

The other was the Depression brought to vivid terms.

I heard that these dustbowl pictures were actors. Staged. If this is so, I'm very disappointed.

As Dana Jean said. The SEAL team assault on bin Laden's compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan.

Interesting side notes - the Air Force guy managing the feed had gotten up to give the President the seat at the head of the table, but Obama told him, no, he needed to stay where he was, and Obama pulled up a straight-back chair from the corner to watch. He probably had the least comfy chair in the place. Secretary of State Clinton has a document in front of her, face up, that had to be blurred out in processing because it had secret content on it. Obama had just returned from the White House Press Correspondents Dinner, where he couldn't cancel his appearance without raising major eyebrows, zinged out his jokes, and got back for the live feed of the assault. The video links included CIA Director Panetta in CIA headquarters and General McRaven in Afghanistan.

I would be as well.

There was another iconic picture taken during the Spanish Civil War of a fighter at the moment of getting shot. I didn't include it because I've read an article that made a pretty solid case that the scene was faked.

My understanding of the event is that the child was indeed rescued.

I have thought about that child all day today. That photo cut me to the core. I won't get that image out of my mind ever. Ever.
