My new buddy Shenan (Hairy Larry) who I lost all footage of him in full fur. Good to have a cop as buddy. He came in handy later as the neighbors called the law because of the screams. I even got a shot of the cop who responded. Sigh. I would have if I hadn't been a clutz and dislodged the SD card. Nobody thought to bring a flashlight and we knew we were filming in the dark. All lights were phone or on set. Oh god I mourn those shots gone like memory on a night of drinking.

A last look at the story board and last shot I got. One of my non horror loving friends said they only wanted to see it if it had porn in it so I told him I did spend thirty minutes with my head up a girls dress. I didn't tell him the full story so maybe the **** will give it a watch. Who the hell doesn't like horror?

There was a lot of bawdy unintentional humor on set. Mostly by the girls. I said "Did I squirt high enough on that one?" and Amanda said "oh yeah honey but give it a few more pumps, I'm not finished". Cracked everybody up. Great group. The best.

Or maybe not. It airs on May 18th at midnight and that's a Friday. Here is a link to the station but I don't think they have the schedule up yet-HILL COUNTRY NETWORK

You should be able to watch the channel on that link once it premiers on the 18th. If you can stay awake that long. I have no idea how things will look all together and edited but I can't wait.

Did anyone catch it? It's still coming on at ten thirty and twelve central standard US every night so far. It's a new station so there is a lot of repeat content. It's a bit hokey and kitschy but it's not meant to be serious horror. I'm lucky they kept my head pulling off bit in even if they cut the blood spurting bit. More Elvira and less Exorcist.

I'm still pushing for Ash style eyeball pulling out sort of stuff while Mike gives me that look like he wonders if he can do without me. He is talking about the NEXT ONE though. I don't care to be in the next one unless it's absolutely necessary but I want some blood and gore. Anyway here is my headless apparatus before the final more skin colored layer was put on.

Excellent read and good pics! Thanks Scratch. I'm jealous. I've always been interested in producing films but now that the tech has caught up with me, the will is gone. I subscribed to a channel a few months ago called 'CULTMOVIES' for 2.99 a month. I dropped it since, but while I had it I was mesmerized by the 'independent' nature of these films. I just could not look away. Maybe yours will be distributed on there in the future? Have fun!

  1. Well hell. Everything has gone pear shaped but with options. And I don't know what the hell to do now. Help me dear internet Abby.

Mike got fired. He said he was out of town a couple of days and then off one for his birthday and when he came in the station owner said he could just stay off. They didn't pay him for the last week of work even. Actually that would be the three days he was off I guess but still he is angry at them. I knew he was sort of scatter brained and just expected folks to take him as he is and work around him but **** he has a wife and kid and no other job. I don't understand all of it but it does seem a crappy thing to do to him. On the other hand I get the feeling he didn't tell them he was going to take off. He is flaky as hell but turns out some decent stuff somehow.

So we are just in limbo for awhile thinking well that's it. No more fun for us and that's all it was anyway. Mike never paid us either. Still enjoyed it and like all the folks involved. Then Amanda gets a message from the station saying they want her to come in and continue, in a scaled down version, her character for introductions to the horrors. She wants to know what to do so we talk about how between us we could shoot a graveyard scene digging up movies each week. With editing software these days it should be easy. Hell, I could do it the old fashioned way too. Back in the day there were work arounds. We got all excited talking of all we could do. Only she wanted me to find out more what the station wanted because Evelyn had made the remark they wanted it more tasteful. We both figured it was the low cut bodice thing but hell, that too is what horror has always been.

So I call and pry a bit more. They want TCM type intros with info about the show and less of a skit type thing. I ask about a standard opening sequence and then a differing banter for each show and they say that's exactly what they want. Well okay, I can do that. That fits in with the digging up an oldie thing. Finding a grave and digging it up (just moving dirt placed on a grave for a few shovels with the stone blocking the action and I had thought of making a stone and using my own plot as a bit of irreverence) then prying it from the skeletal hands of the occupant. Only Amanda just wants to act and not learn anything about the movies. Sigh. I can coach her. I know quite a bit about horror both written and screen. Well okay, if I coach her.

So it's kind of set right? Only Mike calls. He says he still wants to do one more drive in thing come the fall and also he is in talks with another station to start another horror show on it. A bigger more well known and well viewed one it is. Great timing Mike. Okay, cool Mike, but Amanda was contacted blah blah blah... I tell him everything. He freaks. They go behind his back and steal his people. The nerve! His people? Sort of a bit more ownership than I would have liked to hear. He calls me bi polar for saying I like his work but still talking to them. What? I DO like his work but I've always wanted to be involved in horror and I figured you were done here and back to life in Memphis. Nope. He is moving here. Holy hell. I hate all this soap opera crap. I just wanted the fun stuff.

Okay I give. No show on 99. I did try to ask couldn't we just do some shows till his stuff starts to keep sharp. Nope. He hates that station now. How could I hurt him by being such a traitor but you are a grown man you can do what you want. What? I don't even... what? I might use you but at least you are being used by somebody who is into the same stuff you are, he says. Yeah but... wait what? I just... I was asking... okay Mike, I'll wait on you, I sure don't want to hurt your feelings. Do I know of a job I could hook him up with until then? He doesn't know how he will last till the new gig starts. Uhhh... what can you do? Nothing really, virtually unemployable. What? Well, there's always retail. Oh he couldn't do that. Can't stand dealing with the public. Ummmm yeah, I don't know, Mike. I have to deal with folks all the time. Oh he could do a job like mine, after all, he can talk women out of their clothes so he could do talking body shops into buying stuff. Well that's not exactly what... umm... we don't have any openings right now, Mike. And that is true.

Hell. Okay, it's over, if I get contacted by Mike in the fall fine and if not fine. Only it isn't. Evelyn saved my number and calls me this morning. I explain things and how Amanda has told me she only wants to work with Mike now and so our involvement with the station is over. Sorry. Mike promised to take her to a horror host convention and other stuff and she doesn't want to burn that bridge because that's exactly how she reads doing anything else would be. I think she is right too. Well they don't want Amanda anymore. They want me. Holy hell. I seem really knowledgeable and they like my ideas and would I do it. Well... no... Mike won't allow me to work... I mean... he has these projects and... you know what? Let me make a pilot episode and you can decide if you really want me okay? Okay. No hard feelings either way. Well that sounds... reasonable.

Sigh. The other station is bigger and reaches more folks but really I'm not into it just for that and I don't have any idea if I can trust Mike. His behavior has been all over the place. I sure as hell didn't want to be in a damn drama and stepping around on eggshells. My wife and daughter want me to take the station 99 gig. They know how much fun I would have with complete control. But I like Mike. I wouldn't mind helping him any time if he didn't act like he owned me. I want him to succeed. I don't know. Advice?

Mike is manipulating you by demanding that you be loyal to only him. That is patently unfair. I would let him know that I'd be happy to work with him when he gets another project going but, in the meantime, I have to do what makes me happy. Do the hosting gig. It sounds like a great experience and will look good on your resume'. If Mike can't choices. deal with that, cut him loose. He is holding you back. Let Amanda make her own decisions and let her know that you are doing so. You can't be responsible for her choices. These are grown-ups, yeah? Then they have to take responsibility for their own lives and let you do the same.

In the words of Neil Peart:

In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your own song

Hm. Quite the dilemma. One thing stood out from a previous post, though, which might mean you'd already answered the question.

I'm still pushing for Ash style eyeball pulling out sort of stuff while Mike gives me that look like he wonders if he can do without me. He is talking about the NEXT ONE though. I don't care to be in the next one unless it's absolutely necessary but I want some blood and gore.

Seems to me that he'd have let you go without much of a second thought, and you weren't at all sure of his future project in the first place.
OK, new station, new project, new approach. But still...

I also agree with Tery that Mike is being unfair with his demands on you. Ultimately you've just got to go for what seems right for you and gives you (most of) what you want, while letting this experience be what it was (a lot of fun, by the look and sound of it).

Okay. Doing it. All in for better or worse. Here is the promo. I've shot a few movie intros and exits already and may post those too.

I'm afraid they won't do "Don't Look in the Basement" because of editing out the boob shots and it is actually fairly disturbing but not in a Last house on the Left way. I'm still arguing for it. I've done "Curse of the Swamp Creature", "House on Haunted Hill", "The Giant Leeches", and "Dementia 13" so far but I'm getting a bit tired of not getting my way on a few of my choices. I have to stick to public domain stuff but there are ones of those that had ground breaking scenes I would like to show like those in "Messiah of Evil" and because of the blood and gore they shy away from. Maybe I can do an Eeflac after hours thing too.

Okay I got them to do the "Don't Look in the Basement" first and I may get all my choices as long as they don't have nudity that can't be cut out. That will leave out "Lady Frankenstein" and "I drink Your Blood" but I'm sure there will still be those interesting ones like "Horror Express" for me to put some glowing red lights on behind my glasses and say something like "you only have to worry if my eyes start glowing" and then of course turn on the eyes.

I'm having fun with it and from what I've seen of other horror hosts I'm not too awful. I try to have some props for each show and a skit but unlike Svenghoulie and others I actually incorporate information as well. Here are a few intro's and exits I've done. Yes I know I'm seriously goofy but that is a bit of the horror host tradition. The station seems to love me, but then, I'm all they have. Why couldn't I have had this opportunity when I was young and fit? The camera adds fifty pounds of realism.

Anyway, any feedback or suggestions will be taken with much gratitude.
