I might be biased having some prior interest in the JFK assassination, but I thought this book was far and away the best King book in many, many years. And I like most everything he writes. It really compares with the best of his early books. The JFK assassination has a kind of surreal feel about it even today. One lonely guy with a cheap rifle could create so many chaos. When you visit places like Dealey Plaza and the Texas School Book Depository they have almost been frozen in time. Those films and pictures of JFK on the morning of his assassination at height of power and fame are fairly sobering given what happened. Even 50 years later they are hard to watch. I'm amazed in re-reading some King books how many direct or indirect references there are to the JFK assassination. Even in Mr. Mercedes, the killer lives on Elm St. (the same street JFK was assassinated).

This is the book that brought me back to reading Stephen King after many years away - plus it is an excellent story

In total agreement. I think it was so great because he had been working on it so long.
