I was reading over some newspaper articles, and I found out that many Irish people feel embarrassed by St. Patrick's Day because they find it tacky and commercialized. It perpetuates negative stereotypes and oversimplifies Irish culture. According to one survey, one in four Irish don't like that holiday at all. Seeing people from other ethnic backgrounds pretending to be Irish can be offensive to actual Irish people. Some would consider that to be cultural appropriation.
