I'm still working on this book (please no spoilers in responses) but something caught my attention so much I had to comment on it before I'm done.
It had to do with King's novel Insomnia.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it or being emotional, but it's little bits like that in King's work that are the reason I keep coming back to them.

When Roland arrives to the Tet Corp building in 1999, and is given the real-world copy of Insomnia as a guide, it really excited me. I know these books are full of such meta-things and references to his work but this was really powerful. I think part of it is that I read Insomnia shortly after it came out, when I was about 13. It was intimidating, as it's a long book, but it really sucked me in and I've thought about it a lot since then as it dealt with such a powerful mixture of political themes and spirituality.
I also really liked the idea of the book as a powerful, mystical guide that meant more than it indicated. This has been my experience with King's work. I usually pull them randomly off the shelf at a bookstore (usually my favorite bookstore at the beach), and once I start reading them it's like they were written for me, to complement wherever I am in my life at that moment. So to see that play out in Dark Tower about a book that meant so much to me was powerful.
