If there's one thing all religions have in common, it's inspiration. Whether through words or pictures or song, our spiritual selves love to be inspired. So here's a thread for inspirational quotes, pictures, memes, songs, poems, etc.

I'll start it off with one I made:

"My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust? If the whole show was bad and senseless from A to Z, so to speak, why did I, who was supposed to be part of the show, find myself in such a violent reaction against it?. . . Of course I could have given up my idea of justice by saying it was nothing but a private idea of my own. But if i did that, then my argument against God collapsed too—for the argument depended on saying the world was really unjust, not simply that it did not happen to please my fancies. Thus, in the very act of trying to prove that God did not exist—in other words, that the whole of reality was senseless—I found I was forced to assume that one part of reality—namely my idea of justice—was full of sense. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never have known it was dark. Dark would be without meaning." —C. S. Lewis, from "The Problem of Pain"

You are right, @blunthead but in that case he ask that they stop printing it for concern about the school shootings. I think they meant the demand for his books caused them to never be out of print :cheerful:

This is the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego… I used to play on this beach when I was a child! We lived in the working class part of town but would drive over on occasion and enjoy this beautiful beach. I love the quote by e.e. cummings. I find nature so inspiring. Every aspect of it, big and small, continually amazes me.

After a very hard time a few years ago, which caused me to step away from my faith, I found that for the first time I could remember I was noticing little birds. I couldn't understand why I felt such fascination with them. Then one day I woke up with this verse running through my mind, so clearly that is was like someone was speaking it aloud:

    Matthew 10:29-31
“Two sparrows sell for a farthing, don’t they? Yet not a single sparrow falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. The very hairs of your head are all numbered. Never be afraid, then—you are far more valuable than sparrows."

Now I have little bird articles everywhere, as a reminder that I'm important to my Father.

    Marcus' Poem:

    I've been around the world
    I've seen a million things
    I've fought in countless wars
    And dined with many kings.

    I've seen the northern lights
    I've counted all the stars
Been in 'n' out of Saturn's rings
    And started life on Mars.

    I'm fluent in every language
    I've tasted each cuisine
    I've stayed in every palace
    And lived what people dream.

I was there when it began
And I know when it will end
    My only enemy is man.
Yet you are still my dearest friend.

    I invented evolution
I gave you your first breath
I was there at your conception
And I'll be there at the time of death.

    "Marcus Pete Robert Welfare"
This poem was written by one of the developers of the game 'Fable'. He passed away during the development of the second game, I believe.

The game features 'Demon doors', which are puzzles you have to solve, then a door opens and you get a reward. Once you have all other doors open, a special Demon Door can be opened in the game Fable 2 which leads to an area called 'Forest Sanctum'. An idyllic beautiful place with birds singing, grass waving in the sun. It's the only place in the game where the player can't draw any weapon or use any magic, as it is a place of peace. Within this area is a pedestal with a book, the book contains the poem above. It's a beautiful memorial for their friend.
