Hi, I started looking into the various websites originally around the time that darktower.net imploded. I got confused by all of them, thinking that there was a little more cooperation and overlap and had no idea of the strife.

At any rate, I took DT.org as my focus site, and I'm just making my way back here to meet some new folk, get new perspectives on news and what not. I don't spend a lot of time discussing the books themselves, but I do enjoy collecting at a hobbyist level, mainly S/L editions, though I've started to branch out to some flat-signed editions recently.

I started reading in the early 80s as a young teen. My first read was Salem's Lot which scared the **** out of me of course! My mom, perhaps misguidedly got me a subscription to Castle Rock (which I had a near complete set of until a landlord's bulldog was let into my room and made them into a chewtoy). She also got me my first collectible edition; the 1st Hardcover Trade edition of Drawing Of The Three as well as my first entry into the Signed/Limited Lottery.

Now, in hindsight, I should have bought a S/L of Drawing of the Three on the secondary market right then, but I had some strange idea that I HAD to "honorably"get onto the Dark Tower through the Lottery. So I put in for every Lottery from DT2 through DT7. I got the fantastic word from Grant on that "final" book and was so thrilled, even though I got copy #1482/1500! I was FINALLY done with Grant Lotteries after nearly 20 years!

We know where this story is headed and the heartbreak in store when SK/Grant announced the Revised Gunslinger/Little Sisters of Eluria. :) So, ANOTHER Lottery process and I lucked out again, and this time, I got to a safe #1004/1250. I didn't need to worry about it again! ;)

Grrr! This is getting OLD now! ANOTHER Lottery for The Wind Through The Keyhole, of course! LOL! I DO think I am finally safe though now that I am the owner of #180/800!

Now, I got the Artist Editions as well as they became available, though I wasn't lucky enough to get any of the remarqued copies. My original DT2 was a little worn, since it had been through many college/young adult moves, and had also been very carefully read once or twice when the understanding was that they weren't ever going to be mass published; so I got a new 1st Edition copy signed by Phil Hale a few years ago. I also managed to luck into getting a successful order through Hodder/Waterstones for the #52/200 of the UK Wind Through The Keyhole.

This is getting just a tad long, so I think I'll break this into a few parts. To go along with THIS post, I'll include a decent picture or two of my DT set. I'll add other pics in my next post(s).

Here are my DT books inside their various slipcovers.

A little bio before I move on. I grew up in rural Iowa, but moved to semi-suburban Arizona just before my senior year of HS. Both being pretty conservative places, and going through a pretty healthy game of self-deception, I was a bullied and geeky self-denying gay kid. I attended college at NAU in Flagstaff, and eventually was able to self-identify and come out as gay in 1995 when I was 25! I met my future husband in 1998 and we moved to Dallas in 2001. We had an "old school" commitment ceremony in 2000 when marriage seemed an impossibility. We legally married in 2012 in Iowa. You wouldn't believe some of the hassles we endured at the hands of the State of Texas over the name change that went along with that. :) We plan to have a 2018 Texas Ceremony to celebrate our 20th Anniversary together and that will be the end of that.

I HAD most of the Hardcover 1st Editions from the early 80s through 1994 or so, when too many moves and too little money prompted me to just cart them off to a bookstore. (I didn't really realize the value of a well-kept 1st at the time). I'm JUST now starting to rebuilding my unsigned 1st Editions collection. I haven't really done enough bookcase planning yet though, so they're a bit unorganized and out of any kind of order, but here's a look.

Welcome! Nice collection! There is a thread on here where you can post your latest King purchase and also one where you can post your latest thrift/used bookstore purchase and in this thread it doesn't have to be a King book. Just type in the 'search' area (when you're on the main Forum page) 'latest King purchase' or 'latest thrift/used book purchase'. That should find them for you. You'll be AMAZED at what some of us have found.....

Once the Dark Tower books were completed, I was at a bit of a loss as to where to head with my SK collection. So, I decided to keep my eye open for other S/L editions, my first being Under The Dome. I found Cemetery Dance, though unfortunately AFTER "IT", so I missed that wonderful book. I'm keeping up with their Doubleday Years series. I also recently caught up on the PS Publishing Anniversary series. I just got the Stand 1st edition a week or two ago, though it is still unsigned. I have the 11/22/63 S/L, though I didn't go to the Dallas signing even though I live here. I was just stupid.

Revival is my first flatsigned book. Finders Keepers came, of course, just a very short time ago from the Maine signing, though I didn't attend. I purchased the signed 2nd edition airport paperback of Mr. Mercedes (which came from the Brooklyn Revival signing event). It isn't my desired copy, but it will work if I can't get my hands on the 1st Hardcover.

My 1st Trade Edition of Dr. Sleep has the Glen Chadbourne remarque that is my avatar, and the Carrie Gift Edition has the following remarque:

Thanks for the indulgence and letting my show off my little slice of collection, which now that I'm posting it, is more substantial that it seemed to be.

I'm looking forward to finding some more treasures and talking with you all about your own!

Are we talking Doctor Sleep and Finders Keepers mainly since Brodart type covers are pretty standard? Finders Keepers has a slipcover coming from Cemetery Dance soon, then I'll be able to take it out. As far as Doctor Sleep, I just hated seeing that gorgeous white case subjected to the dust that I still get in my case. I'll likely get another bag soon for The Stand, which I just got into my collection. What can I say, I like to take care of my books.
