is it a new adaptation of the book?

Because I didn't think the miniseries was that good at all. They just changed so much from the book, it really ruined the story. They changed the setting so it wasn't even summer vacation, not to mention all the character changes, like Mr. Marsh being a janitor at the school and Ben's mummy changed to seeing his dad, and that scene didn't even take place in the winter. And even the adults, they made Ben into a womanizing drunk in NYC, instead of a quiet architect living in NE.

I thought it was a terrible movie to be honest, Curry was pretty good as Pennywise though. But the rest of the casting didn't seem right at all, especially the kids. Seth Green seemed too big to be Richie, who's supposed to be small and scrawny. And the kid who played Ben, seemed to old and not as fat as Ben is supposed to be. He didn't seem to be that fat at all to be honest. That's just a small amount of what I thought was wrong.

I just feel the new movie should be based on the book and not the miniseries. Saying the new IT movie is a remake of the miniseries just seems to push the book aside and make the miniseries the definitive version of the story. That's kinda what happened with Harry Potter, it seemed to become all about the movies and people didn't talk about the books much anymore, even though the books were way better.

I'm sure any remake will be based on the story told in the novel and not on the previous telling. Welcome to the SKMB!

The 1990 miniseries entry in IMDB Pro lists SK as one of three writers, along with Lawrence Cohen (1976 Carrie, 2013 Carrie, Tommyknockers, Ghost Story) and Tommy Lee Wallace, who also directed. The new remake is listing SK as a writer with the postscript (novel) and Chase Palmer and David Kajganich as writers on the screenplay.

This May 25 article from Deadline Hollywood suggests there may be some serious difficulty with the production, what with the director leaving just a couple of weeks before shooting was supposed to begin.

A June 12 interview with actor Ty Simpkins of Jurassic World suggests the production is shut down.

That's very surprising, because it looks like he didn't have much input into the screenplay at all. So much was left out, it was basically pared down to the barrens and the sewer. And they barely went into the sewer when they were kids. There was no Niebolt Street or anything. It was very disappointing for me.

It may be a good thing that production of the new movie is shutdown. I read that the years in this new movie was going to be changed to them being kids in 1985 and the grownups would be 2010. That just sounds awful as there was a lot of 1958-centric stuff in the story when they were kids, not to mention 11 year olds in 1985 were very different from 1958.

...it's not going to be a re-make of the TV mini-series, but a new adaptation of the novel....
