Hey all!!!! I'm so happy to be here posting my very first thread! I've been a Constant Reader for about 25 years, and I still haven't gotten enough! I do have a question about my one and only "Signed" copy of a book. I wonder if this signature isn't real. I surely hope it is! Could you guys tell me if this is a real signature?! Thank you!!!SK Signature.jpg33952y

Unfortunately, I don't. It was a purchase on eBay, which has me worried. I do know that Stephen King didn't have any book signings for Everything's Eventual. I spoke with Gerald Winters in Bangor, Maine at his bookstore and he finally managed to find just one signed copy. I wish I brought this book with me when I was on vacation to get his opinion. I truly hope it is real, but the "g" has me wondering and a bit worrisome, too.
I purchased this around 3.5 years ago. It's a first edition/first print.

The other thing that has me a little doubtful is that there isn't a date under the signature. It doesn't mean it isn't authentic but is one of those red flags to look for.

And thank you for the warm welcome! I'm so excited to be in this forum!!!! I can't wait to see what amazing SK talk awaits me! I'm currently reading Mr. Mercedes and loving every single page of it! I'm on page 240 or so. It's unlike anything I've read before of his works!
Hi and welcome. Mr. Mercedes is a good read! Enjoy.

I didn’t see the date under the signature being much of an issue, just because he hasn’t dated his autographs in a long while. But I really think you’re onto something with the ‘g’. It was a harsh eBay battle to get it, that’s for sure. I’m trying to find an accredited signature authenticator in my area, but haven’t found any luck.

The reason he hasn't dated the more recent books is because he's switched to pre-signing books for book tours. He always signs at least 400 books at a time for those and dating every one would make a lot more work for himself so doesn't do it on those. For ones that he has signed individually, e.g. when he signed books sent to our office, he does usually add the date and IIRC he was still doing that in 2002 when Everything's Eventual was released. Time seems to pass more quickly these days, though, so I could be mixing up when he stopped doing signatures on books sent to our office.

Do not trust any individuals/companies that say they will give a certificate of authenticity. It isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Oh wow, I didn't know that about the dates! Everything's Eventual has been a hard one for me to look into, since I don't seem to find any signed copy samples online. It's a tough one. I am currently speaking to someone who has a true signed copy of this exact book and he had me take a few additional pictures (clearer and with a quarter next to the signature) to compare to his signed copy. Hopefully that will help in determining the authenticity of the signature. You guys are a wealth of knowledge! I'm already loving it here. I don't care for the piece of paper that claims authenticity; I just want peace of mind in knowing that the book I hold so dear to me is in fact signed by Stephen King. I'd pay for the truth, if that makes any sense. Oh, and I just wanna throw out there that I would NEVER sell a signed Stephen King book, ever lol. I've been trying to get to one of his book signings but I missed the last one here in Washington, D.C. One of these days i'll make it to one, and I will hold on to the memories and book for the rest of my life!

Greetings.

A author's flat-signed book is only important for resale value or sentimental value , IMO. A personalized note and signature is a whole different matter, though (like I’ll ever see one ). Since you will never part with it, cherish it as real regardless of its provenance if for no other reason than a remembrance of the battle you endured and won in obtaining it.

Welcome to the board Heislerette ,

I have two signed books and I'm only 100% sure of one of them as it was one of the numbered special editions of Under the Dome, the other one looks exactly the same so hopefully it's a real one. Just believe it is and keep it safe!
I got the wife an authentic signed copy (if Ms Mod is to be believed ;):)) of TGWLTG when Stephen King was raising money for the Haven Foundation. She has been a fan of his writings for over 30 years. Her attitude of the signed book was ' meh' since she already had the novel. She said she always felt his stories reached her personally and she would love to have a personalized signed book to her to match the personal connection she gets from his novels. Makes sense. The book has been sitting in a drawer somewhere collecting dust ever since.

You can use mine for comparison. I was present when Mr. King signed my copy of Pet Sematary. It was a special event, where he was receiving the Mason award at GMU, and I have the provenance of the ticket and the golden ticket allowing me to have any book signed that I wished.

Who did you have to threaten to kill in order to get that golden ticket? :)
