Hi,

Tried reading Dark Tower series before, & couldn't last half of the first book, was just struggling to really get into it! Then i started The Shining, but struggled with this.. not sure why, i think i'll give it another go sometime. So i didn't give up on SK, and decided to start IT (one of his longest i believe). I'm quite early on, see spoiler below for exact part.

The 7 'losers' are all getting called & are heading back to Derry. Currently reading & learning about stuttering Bill, & how he hasn't stuttered in nearly 5 years & is just becoming a selling author.

Really enjoying the book, can see it's a lot better written than a lot of the things i've read before. Can't wait until i get further in and learn more.

Not sure whether i've missed something (was reading before bed towards the beginning of the book, so i sometimes forget what i had read) but they seem to flick through different era's... hope i haven't missed something, but i remember finding little bits confusing!

Yes, there are two of everyone and you just have to keep track of whether you're in the 50s or the 80s. It's usually pretty apparent. And you're at the part where the older characters flash back to young adult age, which is in between the two eras, but....not too bad. Nobody does any time traveling or anything.

This is with the expectation that you're READING and not listening on audio. I listened to the Time Traveler's Wife, and never had any idea when I was, since I didn't see the dates and so didn't line them up in my mind. Still an enjoyable listen, but confusing!

....many welcomes to you, and it may take a bit-but you WILL get used to Steve's style and his way of "age hopping".....

Well worth the read! I read IT when I was 17. Had already seen the movie so I skipped through a lot of IT, thinking this didn't happen in the movie? Bad bad idea!! When I did my first re-read I was thinking to myself why did I ever skip all if this?

Hi, and welcome to the site! IT is one of those books that you'll remember reading long after you're done. It wouldn't surprise me one but if you found yourself lost in it on more than one nightly perusal! :reading:

Yeah i can tell by everyone's thoughts on the book that it's a good one, i'm certainly enjoying it so far! Just want to find more time to read it so i can get through it, they still haven't even met up yet! But it's close to happening!

I'm a big believer in the "if a book doesn't grab you in the first 50 pages, there's no shame in moving onto something that does" mindset. The Stand was the first SK book I ever read (I was still pretty much a kid) and it captured me from the first. I read Roots (by Alex Haley) and the same thing happened. We read Wuthering Heights in our Novel class and I found it to be the most boring book on the planet. It's such a personal thing!

I saw the Shining (both movie and mini-series) before I read the book. I'm a bit ashamed to say I think it was good (for me) this way; I can't explain why but having saw the movie first helped me process the book. There were descriptions (in the book) I feel I would have had a hard time picturing without a pre-designated picture in my head. Bad, probably, but hey, whatever works. As far as The Shining goes, when I finished it I promptly re-read it again about 3 weeks later :D It's still my favorite. Then I turned around and polished off Dr. Sleep in a weeks time. The Langoliers was a two night event. If it grabs you, it grabs you hard and if it doesn't, try again some other time in my opinion. Glad you're enjoying "It"!
