It seems like they kept comparing it to the miniseries instead of the book. The guy on the right admits to forgetting major details of the novel. I'm excited, too.

they weren't even particularly getting the mini series details right lol. he called richie as having encountered the werewolf in the house which never really appeared in the mini series, when he was just in the school basement. they should have lined up an expert haha. but they did better than a casual observer

Tell you what, once this trailer hits the theater and buzz starts going, well, remember the clown craze last summer? You ain't seen nothing yet..no doubt, some clowns(pun intended)will have to dress up as pennywise in his newest incarnation and go around scaring people this summer, bet it goes ten times the rate of last year's hysteria..

I know, it bugs me, too. I despise talking to a King fan whose only frame of reference are the movies. I don't always get the details correct while recalling the books but I try at least. Lol

Doesn't Richie and Bill encounter the werewolf in the cellar of the house on Neibolt Street? If memory serves, Bev, Eddie and Stan accompany Bill and Richie on a second visit to Neibolt Street. I remember something about an elf wall paper in the bathroom.

haha the people only using the movies for reference have no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes. they think tim curry was scary? by the looks of this trailer they're gonna be crapping their pants if that's their bar. and still i doubt it does full justice to the books

yes they do, only bill doesn't see it that way because it was richie's particular glamour, bill saw the clown. second time around all seven of them went and richie cemented the vision for all of them, so it was a werewolf fight with silver slugs. the house itself had lots of weird stuff and otherworldiness occuring, such as the weird wallpaper, creepy pictures, crazy litters of rats all tangled together, halls elongating like a funhouse illusion, a mattress that splits open and has weird goo coming out of it, and the simplest trick of all, a mooseblower used to scare crows because it tried to freak them out of ammunition with the noise

Agreed. I like the tone of this movie much better. It's cinematic, sweeping, and more sinister. The clown is something to be feared, as in the book, and isn't too corny.

stephen king's insistence on tying himself to tv networks for adaptations in the 90's always puzzled me. possibly the worst medium to adapt his books, considering censorship

I will be reading it again soon. I seem to remember times when all of the group wasn't together. Sometimes a particular member was sick or grounded, etc.
This will be my fifth reading of the book. I have a feeling you've read it much more often, lol.

they had some separations. eddie's broken arm escapade for one. bev watching the takedown of patrick for another. and it started alone for all of them. they were together during the major stuff though, like the neibolt street fight

recitador, have you ever spoken to board member Robert Gray on here? He is very well versed on It and the ins and outs of the book,if you like discussing it,he is quite the authority..

i'm not entirely sure if we've interacted directly, but i've definitely read a lot of his in depth answers on the It subsection
Cool then,he doesn't comment too often but his answers always seem well thought out and spot on..I am on your level of reading It at least twenty times, you should see my battered first edition,I had to buy a backup paperback to read to save the hardcover further deterioration..looks like this movie edition may be a decent interpretation..

Been checking out my friends' posts on Facebook and the reaction to this trailer is just insane. There are people who never picked up a King book but know the mini-series, there are people who are too scared to even watch the trailer or share it online, and one of my friends is absolutely traumatised because his daughter made him watch it. Plus, I've got a bunch of people tagging me to go see it with them because they know what a hardcore SK fan I am. Another buddy of mine was too scared to finish the book when we were in school together. He read it later on as an adult and it terrified him. He's also pissed with me for using the Pennywise image as my temporary FB profile photo, cause every time I comment on something he has to look at that face! ;;D I can't believe I actually forgot what an impact the book (and later on the TV show) made when it was first published.

The way I see it, right now the only thing that will kill this film at the Box Office is if the initial reviews are poor. I read early on that the studio is keeping a pretty tight budget on the two films (I think the figure for both is $50M), so short of terrible reviews, this thing looks set to make a killing at the Box Office, guaranteeing a follow-up with the adults. We need to support this on opening week!

I think I cried a little when I saw the trailer. I love the mini series and I love Tim Curry(and always will!) but this looks to be a whole new ballgame. Darker, a much more vicious Pennywise, no commercial breaks and an R rating. That last scene in the water where he comes running? Divine!!
I too have read this book many times as it's my favorite King novel and from the images and stills shown so far I think this will adhere pretty close to the original source material. Pennywise is also my favorite character from King's books and I love this interpretation of him. From the outfit to the look as a whole. Excited to hear him! I also don't mind the change from the 50's to the 80's, especially since I grew up in the 80's. The projector must take the place of the photo album which is fine seeing what they did with it! One question though, where was Bill's stutter? I do hope they didn't take that away.
There is also this in case some of you missed it. If you listen closely you can hear a little clown laughter in the background.....(this was a teaser for the teaser!)

I'm not entirely sold on it. It's not bad for sure, it obviously looks more like a movie than tv, but there's not a certain style about it which immedeately grips me - it looks quite ordinary, run-of-the-mill. It's only a teaser trailer of course.

My main worry is: when will we know if it's succesful enough to warrant the second part? We probably won't know until some time after it's premiered.
If it turns out to be really good and it's not succesful enough for the second part to be made, that would be awful. I hate unfinished things, like Golden Compass or Eragon, which we will never know what the sequels would have been like (it's gone quiet around the BBC adaptation of Golden Compass also).

So that's my worry. If it's a perfect It, yet somehow it doesn't do well enough, we have another unfinished film.

(Sorry, my edit time passed.)

It also looks like they dropped the angle on cinematic horrors completely. Wasn't the pure intention of the book to revisit his love for the classic horrormovies of his youth? Hence we got The Mummy etc and even the title It which was a reference to the several movies with It in the title.
There's nothing in the trailer linking It to horrormovie-icons past or present. It would be a shame to lose that angle and make it more of an ordinary 'monster is coming to get you' movie.

We'll have some idea of its box office performance after the first weekend of release. Horror films generally are front loaded so I would say that if it pulls in around 30-35 million opening weekend IT will be a hit. The film has a fairly small budget (relatively speaking of course)so that bodes well for part 2.

No chance of the seeing other "known" monsters in this film, considering the budget and rights issues. Being set in the 80s, it would have been a thrill to see the Losers being terrorised by the Alien xenomorph, Freddy and Jason.
