The sequel train is definitely going to be rolling after this one.

They just officially hired the writer for it. For It. For Part 2...
I heard the next one is going to delve into where Pennywise comes from and is going to bring back the kids in some capacity.

Is it the same guy?
That would seal the deal for me. If just a few flashbacks are included it would bond the two films, plus it would help the audience connect with the adult characters faster because we all ready have the emotional attachment from first film. Flashbacks could permit writers to squeeze in any moments that couldn't fit into Part One movie because of time restrictions, etc.I heard the next one is going to delve into where Pennywise comes from and is going to bring back the kids in some capacity.
Since we will be in the present day I wonder if the movie will open with the Festival. As far as flashbacks, I'd be interested in seeing more of Mike, Stan and Richie (all of them, who am I kidding? ) since they got the least coverage. While I'm thinking about it...the kid who played Ben was outstanding. That's tough for an overweight kid (even acting) to be seen shirtless and vulnerable. All the kids met their emotionally demanding roles with fearless performances.Gary Dauberman has been officially hired to work on Chapter 2. He's one of the writers of the first film.
Director Andy Muschietti has stated in multiple interviews that he intends to film more scenes of the kids as flashbacks for the second film. He also chose to omit certain elements from the first film either due to budget restrictions or because he felt they would serve the narrative better in the second. Examples he cited were the smokehouse scene where the kids "see" Pennywise's arrival to Earth millions of years ago and more of the Black Spot incident.
From all I've been reading and hearing about this film (I mean, it's barely out for 2 days and has already made back twice its budget), New Line better dump a truckload of cash on Andres and Barbara so they give us a truly epic Chapter 2. Andres impressed the hell out of me with Mama (despite an ending that smacked of Del Toro's heavy-handed influence), and he along with James Wan makes me think we are witnessing the new generation of classic horror film-makers like Craven, Carpenter, Hooper and the like.

Thank you for sharing this. I am surprised to be saying this but I agree with the change Muschietti has in mind for Mike Hanlon.Stephen King's It: Sequel details revealed
An article with a few more details on plans for part 2 from the directors.
Thank you for sharing this. I am surprised to be saying this but I agree with the change Muschietti has in mind for Mike Hanlon. The more developments that I hear about the more pumped I get.In the novel, the other six Losers go on to be successful and, up until Mike calls, have naged to blot out their individual memories of Derry. In the book, Mike is drinking heavily, obssessed, and terrified, so it makes sense that the movie audience sees Mike pay a greater toll for remaining behind. The drug addiction would tie into the ritual of CHUD, as the director explains.
