With It: Chapter Two on the way, I'm wondering - do you think New Line will continue on and make the trademark a cinematic franchise, and maybe branch into a streaming series or two?

I'm thinking that AT&T wants to make the most of its Time Warner acquisition, especially given the huge debt it took on to make that happen. Obviously I'm not suggesting an It franchise will create so much free cash flow so as to eliminate all the debt, or even a significant chunk, but I'm just thinking of a corporate mindset at New Line that might have a predilection for maximizing all properties (think of how the Potter franchise is being handled at the sister studio). If that were to be the case, we might be the beneficiary of new It-haunted celluloid. And I think that would be awesome!

What are the chances of this happening? What would a third film look like...would it be a new It? Maybe not a clown, but an evil something else? Or, maybe it should just be a different clown (or a circus of clowns!). That probably would be simpler. I suppose too it could simply be about a new Losers' Club that maybe has to deal with a different enemy/paranormal circumstance. Also: imagine a streaming series called Derry?

But best of all...what if King wrote a new novella set in the city...we've all heard him say he's done with clowns, but maybe he could switch over to some other entity. If not a novella, maybe a long short story published in Elevation format.

Here's to hoping this September does not mark the last entry in this particular movie universe...

Bloody-Disgusting asked screenwriter Gary Dauberman about the possibility of keeping the It franchise alive in a recent interview. Surely Warner Bros. would be interested in returning to this popular, acclaimed, financially successful world again… right?

Well, not so much.

“I’m sure there’s interest but I gotta say,” Gary Dauberman said. “We want to be respectful to the material of the book. I don’t think anybody’s over there, in fact I know there’s no one over there going ‘Hey, let’s definitely do this and we could tell this story of what happened at the beaver trapping camp,’ or whatever.”

Dauberman is referring to the extensive history of Pennywise the Clown, which goes back at least as far as colonial America, where the town of Derry, Maine started out as a camp for trappers.

“While you could [tell that story], and I think it would be cool, I don’t think that’s what people are doing currently if that makes sense,” Dauberman continued. “You know what I mean?”

“So yes, to answer your question I think there is room to build on the mythology of It because It has been around from the beginning of time, but I don’t know if there are any plans for it,”Dauberman added. “I was just very happy to tackle the book.”

I wish, Bev, this were not the case. Things can change, certainly, but it seems as if, for now, there won't be much in development.

Notaro, I agree...a prequel would be very welcome. As the article mentioned, the history of It has a lot of material. But, alas...

Also, just a quick thought that popped in my head: I hope the concluding chapter sees the creature haunt people through modern-day social media. That might be outside of the source material, but it also might be a value-added element...

The screenwriter doesn't own the rights to the book. If Part 2 makes as much if not more money that Part 1(which I think it will due to the 'name' actors involved), then I believe that someone will try to capitalize on that in some form. Be it a prequel or sequel. Look what happened with Rose Red. It was a very popular mini-series and ABC greenlit a prequel. Look at the Children Of The Corn franchise. I'm surprised no one's thought of a sequel to Cujo where there was a litter of puppies that Cujo sired while in the early stages of the disease and that they grew up to terrorize the town (hey, it's my idea and I'm going to copyright it!! :p).

Sounds similar to my fertilized puppy egg story from a rabid schnauzer, krf. I'm giving you the side eye right now.

i can see more merch and stuff related to it. not sure how much more merchandise they can sell but perhaps it will be like a constant thing. or like making merch from like the more generic objects like gergies yellow rain coat, or the boat or red balloons. I think he will always be popular at Halloween

Last Halloween I got a yellow rain coat like Georgie's, cut the sleeve off jaggedly (like it had been ripped off), brushed on some red paint here and there to make it look like blood, wrote 'Georgie' on the top of the front pocket and that was my costume. Some people at the party 'got' it while others were like 'Who's Georgie?' :D

Yeah, like they've been respectful to the material of the book so far. I honestly feel that the 90s miniseries was a much better adaptation of the book than these movies have been. And I didn't like the miniseries that much either.

I only hope that people know when to stop. Merchandise knows no bounds and it either appeals to you or it doesn't. But other than a prequel that would be enough for me.

If King wrote a prequel I'd be down for a prequel but them going out on their own and doing it from scratch, no thanks. Firestarter 2 and Carrie 2 come to mind when they decide to take a King story and do their own thing, and those were horrible films. As for merchandise, I have a hunch they'll run Pennywise merchandise into the ground. McFarlane is taking it slow with Stranger Things and Harry Potter but Neca and Funko are going overboard with Pennywise and they're beyond obsessed with Aliens, lord knows why.

the merchandise i have seen for the new it is grossley overpriced. It looks good but stupid high prices. plus i kind of overdid it with the it merch form the last movie. but i thuink they have more animatronics for pennywise. at halloween stores so that is good. I saw a cute wall hanging and a yellow boat i may get but i dont whant to pay the stupid amount they whant for it. they had a really cool figurative penywise mug but they whant like $20.00 for it.

That is about the average price for an official band or movie mug but one has to keep in mind, it is very expensive to get the licensing rights for popular films an IT is very, very popular right now.

Average movie t-shirt = 18-25 (if its actually licensed and not some bootleg)
Average movie figure = 15-30 (the better the sculpt the higher the price)
Average movie poster = 5-10 (this has pretty much been the same for the last 20 years)
