It's not the midget Jack Reacher from the films though.

Why am I laughing? That's low*, champ1966, but it's funny (*no pun intended)!
Best not to think about the films - like a schmuck, I assumed that this was one series that would never reach the screen.

Reacher exists in my imagination - hotter than July (I'm a woman. I can't help it), as brave as Spartacus, as near to a superhero as any man could be.
When you fall for a fictional character, the writer has exceeded his job description, big time.

And what a lovely compliment from SK to Lee Child:clap:

I have a problem with Cruise in just about any role. :highly_amused:

Could you cut him some slack in War of the Worlds(2005) and Born on the 4th of July(1989)?

WOTW was as scary as all get-out and he was a convincing regular guy.

And July made me stop and think properly about the guys who couldn't (and didn't) dodge the draft (like one of my tutors at university). Late-flourishing shame, if you will, 10 years after I went to university:facepalm_smiley:.

When the UK got into Gulf War 1.
Now it's personal, when your baby brother's older friend is out there, in the sandbox, and you're hoping and praying his buddy comes home. . .

Anyway, way off topic (sorry!).
Cruise can act, but not Reacher.

No. It's not just you.
But ultimately, Mr. Child owns Reacher and he can do what he wants with him (sigh).
Gotta respect a man's property . .:indecisiveness:

I know he approved the choice and you can't argue with that. After all, Morgan Freeman played Red and Tim Robbins played a short accountant type guy with sandy blond hair and it has to be one of the best movies I've ever seen.

In my highly subjective opinion, Tom Cruise tends to over-act and ruins a lot of movies that otherwise had a potential to be good and that includes the first Jack Reacher movie. In fact, Tom Cruise is the reason I don't want to see the second movie that just came out.

No, not for WOTW. But I can for BOT4OJ, I guess. I actually did like him in Risky Business but then he got all full of himself real quick. I know people who have worked with him and they have stories.... I know I should be able to separate the actor from the man but I just can't. My deal, I know it. I own it.

Being able to separate the actor from the (wo)man is very very difficult - when I found out a thing or two about James Stewart, via his biographer, I dumped his films.
Ditto TS Eliot - hard to like a man (even though he wrote awesome poetry)when you know he would despise you. Rinse and repeat for Philip Larkin.

I don't see your opinion as a negative - on the contrary, your opinion is an informed one (people who have worked with him).
Sad to hear that he's a . . whatever. . . but your opinion is still 100% valid .
