One of my other favourite authors is my fellow Irishman, John Connolly. His series about Private Investigator, Charlie Parker, is one of the best Detective series around in my opinion. Most of the stories are set in and around Maine and there's a nice supernatural edge to the stories as well.
Are there any other fans among my fellow Constant Readers?

A good friend from the library recommended them to me for the reasons you stated. I haven't read him, yet, but I'm familiar with his books and this particular protagonist. Would you say they should be read in order of publication?

Personally, I would recommend starting with the first one, Every Dead Thing, and reading them in order as, although all books have their own storylines and can be read separately, there is also a main theme that runs through them all.
Hope this helps, Doc.
