I really like this book. I listen to it on audio and it was a lot of fun. I was able to tell who was who and keep everyone straight. The reader did a really good job. The voices were thrilling and fun. I could feel the emotions.

Ok now for the story. I really like the story. Now I am not sure if it was deep or not. I enjoy the ride tell I got there. Then when I did get to the end..I thought more over what I heard and felt. I didn't see it has man vs woman. I felt it was more about us being humans. How when things get hard we want to find someone to blame. In a way we blame each other. Men and woman are so different yet in the end were a lot a alike. I know everyone dose not do it.

The first part of the book show how these people started out and in the end they changed. Not everyone did but some did I can feel it. That help me enjoy it. In truth thou I am not sure if the world would fall apart so fast. I know my two boys would do ok without me. Thou I am not sure if the laundry would ever get done again. It kind of hard for me to put in words. But yes men and woman can do what each other do but birth. But we emotional need each other. We balance each other men and women do.

I hate moths they where EVERYWHERE in the book. I hate them so much I shiver every time a moth did something. moths are just yucky. What they did in the car gave me nightmares

This was kind of long winded I am sure I got that I thought across. But the book was good.

My husband has always said that SK could write out his grocery list and I would buy it and quote it. So I have been lurking here and I get the impression that most don't like it or think it is not one of his best but for the most part I loved it. My fave SK book is always the one I am reading and the Stand Nothing beats the Stand!!

This was the version I read first. It was a blistering summer and the white pavement in front of Walgreens was blinding. I was on lunch break so I walked inside to grab a Coca-cola. I passed a small rack of paperbacks on the right and picked up the blue one with Stephen King in silver. My heart bounced. I read it in a week and eventually I read the complete version. It's a special book and the characters are so real to me. Who is your favorite character?

First as many folks here know, I think Mr. King is a literary golden god and I just love his work. I love his language. I love his sense of character and he just rings my chimes.

I was emotionally invested in the characters and the premise was interesting and the enigma of Evie (love the lilt in her voice in the audiobook). I enjoyed the story. It made me think.

However, this novel Mr. King wrote with his son own kinda made me mad too. It was steeped in Victim Feminism from the 1970's. If women are bad it is only because they have been treated badly by men. Really? As long as women are treated like victims or like children they will never be considered equals.

Women are not given any power to decide their fate in this novel. At least in the story of Adam and Eve, God gives them free will. Eve chooses to eat of the tree of knowledge and the church fathers blast her as reason for the downfall of all humanity. In SB, King and Son force them to choose to go back into their victim and self-sacrificing roles or they will be the cause of downfall of all humanity. WTF?

In many stories of alternate worlds, there are always a couple of folks that stay in that world. This was not the case here. All or nothing. It would have been cool to have a few of the women to stay and live out their lives in their experimental world. It would have made a nice sequel.

Hi all, I just finished the book. I'm actually a little disappointed..

Sleeping Beauties has a strong start and the premises are really intriguing, but there are too many characters in my opinion. Too many stories that don't fit themselves very well.

At some point, in the second half, things start happening fast and there's no time to bond with the emotional developments of the characters, not even for the main characters. It's like Stephen and his son had had an urge to close the story because they were no more interested in it.
To be more clear.. think about of the perfect mix regarding the characters Stephen had managed in IT or The Stand.. Sleeping Beauties is totally on another level.. :too_sad:

I started the book with great trepidation. As I got more into the story, I got more into the characters and their foibles. I saw a lot of good and bad on each side. I thought the ending was perfect. But hey, life would be so boring if we all thought the same.

While I see your point, I think the old world is going to find a few changes.

Well said, JMR. I agree with all that you said. I love this book and like you, I see it as more of a statement on the human condition that a battle of the sexes.

I don’t think it was a battle of the sexes but one was certainly portrayed in a much better light. Men certainly are responsible for most atrocities but to think we would turn into cavemen inside of a week is absurd. Willy was the only decent guy in the city.

The way men were portrayed didn’t really get old until the last 100 pages or so. Then the lackluster ending really soured the whole read for me.

 I agree with you, we are here to provide our opinions and to have comparison about them. So, don't you think there are too many characters?

Because it gave scope for so many different experiences of the phonemenon and how different people dealt with it. I never worry about keeping people straight. Keep reading it all comes together.

Loved the beginning indeed the first half...then to be honest got a bit bored over all decent but not up there for me with SK best work

i will have to agree. The beginning showed great promise and then it took an extreme nose dive. I had to force myself to continue reading. It almost became an obligation more than a reward.....and that should never happen.
