I've been reading Sai King's works in order recently having skipped around a bit in the past. I just finished Gerald's Game and I'm a bit spent. The child abuse imagery was extremely painful to read not for any personal reason but because it's child abuse. I don't care what happens to adults in King's works but whe you start molesting kids its a different story. Anyway, the next novel is Dolores Clairborne. Is it more of the same? not the abuse so much but the same kind of story...present day, flash back etc? thinking I may want to skip over to Insomnia for a change of pace. Thoughts? Thanks.

...it's told in a long "monologue" by the title character and yes-it's past and present-but mostly the past as she recollects the events that make up the bulk of the novel.....

Maybe this will help:

Dolores Claiborne/Insomnia by Stephen King

Dolores Claiborne was pretty good (also made into a movie, which I have not seen yet).

Insomnia got a bit strange at times but was still a very good read.

There is an element of abuse in the flashback parts, but it is not seen first person like the scene in Gerald's Game, merely we know it was happening. Like others have said, it's a companion piece but a very different style. Let us know what you think when you have finished.
