I finished dead zone and just finished thinner. I heard that dead zone was super awesome. High rankings on a lot of the people who ranked all his works. Thinner I heard was just ok with toward the bottom ranking. Well dead zone I had to make an effort with. The 2nd half was definitely better. But thinner I absolutely loved. I honestly couldn't put it down. Finished it in 4 days. From beginning to end it had me hooked. The ending was fantastic. One of my favorites for sure. It's cool to look at reviews but different books speak to readers in different ways.

That's what it's all about.

Personally, I wouldn't rate either of these as "better" than the other. I like them for different reasons, but it's interesting that you've got them together here because I think most people would agree that Johnny Smith is a sympathetic character, while Billy Halleck is . . . less so.

I seriously need to finish Thinner already. Started it back in 2010 and never finished....oops....

Anyway, yeah, Sk fans tend to have varying opinions on almost every book. The Tommyknockers is in my top 10 and do not care for Firestarter.

Yeah I've been there too with his books. A couple that are universally praised by fans, I find myself slogging through while some of the almost universally panned books, I zip through in a rush and really like them.

This is me with "the Stand" and "Joyland".
The former I started many times before I finally forced myself to finish it, then didn't see the big deal.
The latter, I put off reading due to poor reviews, then eventually bought it and it's now one of my favorites.

PS... I enjoyed "Thinner" very much as well.

I'm with you on The Stand. Joyland I could have finished in one sitting easily. Completely loved it.

I like them both, but Thinner is definitely more Bachman than King, or at least that's how I remember it (the problem with your favourite writer being so prolific is finding the time to dedicate to repeated readings of the entire back catalogue). That's not a critiscism, just an observation. I like Bachman just fine as well, but I'm not sure that everyone feels the same, there's a few split opinions on The Regulators too looking around the forum.

I always preferred Desperation as it's more the road trip from hell.

Yes. I get this. It's the road trip from actual hell . . . which makes all those road trips we remember as hellish . . . not so bad.

Maybe that's it.

Maybe that's what he's been trying to show us all these years:

It could be worse.
